In Brazil the download version costs R$ 1,399, (Real - brazilian currency) which converted to U.S. dollars, at the exchange rate of the day, is the equivalent of US$ 689.
Is it not enough reason for piracy
On Uruguay, near Brazil, with only 3 million people, the price is around 1000 US dollars
thats how the pricing shall work. India has more that 100 million people. mostly computer illiterate, but competition is fierce, you can get a brochure designed for less than 4 US$. or a visiting Card for less than a single US$. The price of a product should be based on the purchasing power of the country, and not on its intrinsic value. A simple example is of McDonalds' Burger pricing worldwide
pls read it:

In my opinion, this is a comparison between two unrelated products. How can a burger be compared with a software.
Burger = Eat, satisfy yourself and forget.Still hungry, pay for another.Want to make money out of it, you cannot eat it but will have to find a guy who is in need to sell it. So you either have the burger or the money.
Software = Buy a license and keep using for the lifetime. Make money for the lifetime.
So buying an burger is spending money and buying a SW license is an investment.

I do not intend to offend anyone here nor I want to get into the pricing discussion war. Just one thing I believe -
No client will pay an extra buck because you invested in a SW for him. So the way is to learn to use the SW so deeply that you start earning the same amount in half the time. Straight calculation. If you are earning 1000 a day. Try to finish the job with proper use of the SW in half the time and you have the opportunity to earn double in a day.
