Echo Lake at night P1210902

Hi Everybody,
Here's Echo Lake after sunset.
Ellie liked it. We split an extra beer. I fell asleep before I drank
much of it.

  • Best one yet.

This one deserves a beer each. I like how the sunset color divides it.

    • Hi John,
      Thank you kindly.
Ellie says that if you come to the New Jersey Highlands, you get all
      the beer you want.
The sky is obviously imported. I duplicated it; colored it orange,
and then did the clip mask thing.
Everything else is the result of the magic Multiply merge mode. It
darkens and saturates colors at the same time.
      Thanks again.
      Phil

    • ¡Congratulations!, have a beautiful image capture, thanks for sharing.

      • I had not seen the previous post, ¿How did this?, You're an artist

        • Hi,
          Thanks for the compliment.
Ellie wants some of the credit.
For starters, I took a lot of pictures of the lake so I could pick out
          the best shot.
Next, I separated land and lake from the sky as a layer (object in PP).
Duplicated it as another layer (object in PP). I set the merge mode of the
top layer to Multiply. The Multiply merge mode is absolute magic. It
darkens colors and makes them more saturated. That turned day into
          saturated night.
I have an inexpensive point and shoot camera which always burns out the
sky. Thus I had to import a sky from my collection of sky pictures. I
made two layers from the sky photo. I shifted the color of one to orange
and the other to deep blue. A clip mask (layer mask) with a linear gradient
on it made the top blue and let the orange through towards the horizon.
That's about all. Nature did most of the artistic work.
          Thanks again for the compliment.
          Phil
PS: I always use the Lab color mode which was recommended to me a long time
ago by Michael Cervantes. It's easy to make large changes in color or tone
          without any interaction between them.

        • Great Image Phil I was there 40 minutes earlier

          • Hi David,
            Excellent.
The picture was actually taken in the middle of the afternoon on a
cloudy day. The sky is imported and was made from an orange layer and a
            blue layer.
I tried to get a reflection of the sky on the water but it came out
            terrible.

Your original posting was very artistic I jusy like screwing around with these new PP filters to get a feel for them.  X5 has excellent color using the WCS color engine in Vista or Windows 7
