I bought an EPS vector image from iStockPhoto. I imported the image into my current copy of Corel Draw 11 perfectly! I was impressed.
Then I decided to try out a trial copy Corel Draw X4, since my 11 is old and I wanted a few new features of X4, and I wanted to try X4 first before upgrading for $200.
When I tried to open and Import the same EPS image into X4 (as editable EPS) - the image does Import/Open, but some of the Objects to not render properly and "breaks" the image.
Has anyone else had an issue like this with oimages they by from iStockPhoto or other photo/image source companies?
Jeff, Jeff, Jeff,
please help me, I use X4, I am like a quality control for art works, i need artworks submitted as editable eps. Some I can open at X4 but some can not, there are some that I can open but also it breaks some lines especially on gradient fills.
Now, does transparency ARE NOT editable as EPS when opened in X4? but can I edit and open these EPS with transparency from AI? I just need to make sure that artworks are in good eps and I can edit them at a minimal stage.
Please help me! :-( I don't want to lose the job.
Keep in mind that EPS is not intended as an "editable" format. It is a final destination format. Files that are already converted to EPS are intended to be simply placed into position or printed "as-is". Opening an EPS format file is a best-guess for any software as it attempts to rebuild the file into something you can work with. It's the same for PDF files too. X5 with ghostscript installed is giving me the best results I've seen so far, but it is not always perfect. Even opening with AI is not always perfect, even if the file was originally created there.
Thanks slangsc,
I can open EPS files perfectly if the file is on simple colors with minimal gradient effect. But files with transparency I could not, i am able to open them from corel photo paint perfectly. what to do?
Can't we really convert file with transparency as EPS from X4?
My only concern is this TRANSPARENCY effects, with ghostscript i will be able to?
I know EPS is not intended to be edited but somehow you should be able to at a minimal stage isnt?
Does AI can convert EPS with transparency effect?
One more thing, If I can't open an EPS file from X4, what does it mean and what could be the problem?
Does X4 can really open any EPS file even when the file is done from AI?

someone is sending you the EPS?
EPS files are a relatively primitive format compared to AI and PDF. That's why things like gradients can be broken up.
BUT, both PDF and EPS have wide potential for issues when re-editing, depending on:
CDR and AI are native file formats. Those are the best for transferring between programs for editing reasons.
If not possible, I'd go with PDF next. Since you can at least see what the file looks like in Reader! :-)

The problem can be the file compression from the newest versions of Illustrator. If the EPS was saved without file compression, X4 can open the document. If not, only X5 can do it
