I bought an EPS vector image from iStockPhoto. I imported the image into my current copy of Corel Draw 11 perfectly! I was impressed.
Then I decided to try out a trial copy Corel Draw X4, since my 11 is old and I wanted a few new features of X4, and I wanted to try X4 first before upgrading for $200.
When I tried to open and Import the same EPS image into X4 (as editable EPS) - the image does Import/Open, but some of the Objects to not render properly and "breaks" the image.
Has anyone else had an issue like this with oimages they by from iStockPhoto or other photo/image source companies?
Hi Ariel,
thanks! I know PDF are best for viewing, but lets say the people are not open to exploration of other software. Anyways, if PDF is used how would I make a little - tiny additional element on the file? I need EPS so I can do little add-ons if I use PDF I wont be able to and I have to redo the file myself.
Cinderella said:I know PDF works great, but the current situation is EPS. Why can't I open some files from X4, as in totally giving me an error! if files are done in AI and exported as EPS i should be able to open it at least but why sometimes I cant?
Because EPS files can vary in how they are made. I suspect whoever made them saved them from the newest version of Illustrator, assuming 2 things:
As you can see, the original artist is making a bad decision, based on arrogance or a lack of concern. They're in control of their own choices, not us.
Corel aside, do users of CS1 freak out when an Illustrator CS4 users creates a file they can't open properly? I hope so! :-)
Anyway, EPS were never meant to be edited. That's what AI files are for.
Opening EPS files is reverse-engineering. Sometimes you might get lucky, other times not. Regardless of software brand.
thanks Jeff, ok, if I get AI should I get CS4? if my file is created at CS4- CS1 wont be able to open it coz its a lower version, but if file is done in CS1 it will definitely be opened at CS4, now if im the source of sending eps files to clients, what AI should I get?
and where can I get AI cheaper?

AFAIK you can't get anything less than CS4 if you buy "new". But look around, maybe someone is selling their older copy. If you spend more than five dollars for any version of Illustrator, ensure it's a real copy and not pirated.

How about "none"? CorelDRAW exports EPS files at no extra charge.
If you want your clients to open EPS files, I can't think of a worse choice as an export format, depending on the complexity of the file. Placing them in a page layout application for printing only, this is a good choice. Huge difference...
PDF's have replaced EPS's almost entirely in 2010. The PDF format has numerous advantages over EPS, and none of the drawbacks.

Good luck with that... your inquiry is common for all of Adobe's software products.
My only problem is why cant Corel open EPS file with complex effects such as gradient, transparencies and shadowing and blur when Corel claims has the best filter during export process to EPS?
Is this because AI is limited in terms of filters? Then why AI is the standard vector program? and they can also do the same effects and export to EPS?
why these vector programs can't think of something smart to support this special effects? Great design software but why do they limit our creativity?
Argh! I'l just get AI. :-(
Just wa'na share this link to everybody with the same never ending issues with EPS:
Maybe EPS is not encapsulated post script but rather [extreme problem source] :-)
