Yes -- ungrouping will break it down to its seperate components (you may have to ungroup things more than once).
Or, just use the smart fill tool. Sixth (6th) icon on your toolbox...

Isn't easier to put the stars into powerclip? In this case, powerclip would be those letters. When u change color of powerclip, u don't change color of objects inside. I think that is is much faster and simplier coz u can always change contents of powerclip (what if u need bigger stars? Your way u have to repeat all the steps)
