Hi all. I haven't been around much since the sign shop closed last october. I do have a bit of freelance work now and then. I purchased a new lap top in the spring. Haven't really used it because I am intimidated by Windows 8. But my husband just got laid off so now I REALLY need freelance work. I want to get coreldraw x6 but I don't know how to know 32bit or 64 bit because I am totally clueless to what that even means. i now have x4. I had x5 briefly at the sign shop but absolutely hated it. I think i read somewhere that on my new computer i can't use x4. Any help greatly appreciated.
THANKS in advance
Lisa
Hello Inj; X4 I think is a Good ver. of CorelDRAW, I don't use PP often. I would go for the X7 over the X6. X4 and X7 do have font imbedding but X6 does not plus X7 has a NEW color engine. If your new computer Is 64 bit that's what I would get, X4 is a 32 bit program but it does work OK on a 64 bit computer. I have X4, X6 and X7 installed in this computer. One way you can pick up some extra money is by going out to a business and sell them Business Cards we pick up about $50.00 a order on a thousand card order. If you would like the info on where and who I use you can drop me a email. Also don't forget banners, you can do the layout and send it to the same co. for printing.

For lack of a better word, I'm afraid of x7. After having bad experience with x5, and hearing stories of other bad version, I worry about purchasing a bad one. At the sign shop I worked with 11,x2, x4, and briefly x6. As i said, x5 was so awful that I had to take it off the work computers. I actually ended u with a couple files that i could never open after having used x5. It was bad enough having troubles at work. Now that I would be buying it myself, I REALLY can't end up with a bad one. I've been putting off buying any hoping that the costs would be lower.
Right there with ya Lisa. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if the bugs were worked out. I suspect X8 will be out by then though. Corel has always been this way. It's usually every other version that's better .Don't get me wrong I wouldn't use any other software for designing just wish upgrading were less of a hassle.

Hello Inj & tracym; I never use X5, but I have made a ton of signs with X4, X6 and now X7 and I like X7 better the X6 ( it does a hole lot more.) But you can down load the 30 day free trial and see if you like it. It doesn't cost anything.

George, I downloaded the trial version for my home computer, Win7 pro i7 16MB RAM. Wasn't too bad but I don't have all the macros I have on my work pc. My shop purchased 3 copies and so far we've only loaded it on one workstation.Yeah it's a little faster but still feels like a reinvention of the wheel. You have to teach yourself all over again! One person needed a certain feature so they threw that in too. Just like cars, they come out with a new model and after few years when they get the kinks worked out they replace it with a new model and back to square one.
p.s. I'm having a bad day
