Is anyone else experiencing a very large number of crashes in Photo Paint X5? I am running it on a brand new Windows 7 64-bit computer with AMD X6 chip, 8 GB of Ram, etc, etc.
Photo Paint is simply crashing too often! I am losing work sometimes stuff that I just put a lot of time and effort into. When I try saving it, the Save button (or Export button) simply doesn't respond. I can't save the work, and soon afterward it crashes. Sometimes I get an 'out of memory' error.
Other times, if I have several images open at the same time, zooming produces a blank screen, like it is out of memory and can't render the image. This usually means it will crash soon, too.
Getting exasperated here ... The new Service Pack 1 that automatically downloaded and installed had my hopes soaring, but it appears to have done little to solve Photo Paint's problems. It may have mostly been for Draw. I am nearing the point where I reinstall my X3 and give up on X5, at least until Corel fixes these problems. I can't keep losing my work. :(

Yes, I'm having Windows 7 x64 crashes as well.
Honestly? I would pay extra if they just spent the next year fixing bugs instead of coming out with new features, but I know that's never going to happen and it's just not smart business. The bug count is extremely too high IMO and it has been since CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 3. I'm a huge huge Corel fan, but I'm getting extremely frustrated at the bugs as it really makes me look bad to my employer when things take me extra long until I find that sweet work-around that gets me around whatever bug I'm trying to dodge.
I just really had to vent today. I'm really pissed off at Corel PHOTO-PAINT today.

I wonder if it's 64 bit issues I run Windows 7 Ultimate and Vista Ultimate 32 bit and have no crash issues.
Thanks for the idea. If it doesn't seem to crash on a 32-bit system, I think I'll try running it in XP compatibility mode as Windows 7 professional has that capability.
I would also pay for a bug-free version of X5. I don't know if it would look good on the Ad sheet, though. :D
I can see it now, "CorelDRAW X6: No new features, just way less bugs."
I would totally buy it too. I would seriously shell out the money for a version like that. Usually, I just buy CorelDRAW Graphics Suite every 2 versions, but I would buy this one ASAP!
Can you imagine if their programmers spent literally all of their resources on bug fixes for an entire year? That would be pretty awesome IMO.
BTW, though X5 crashes on my Windows 7 x64, it's only happened a couple times. I'm more concerned with the objects panel bugs than anything. They've been driving me crazy and really slowing me down!

LOL It shouldn't be a new version update, it should be one of their service packs. Just bug fixes. Lots of bug fixes.
To answer the original question, yes Corel Photopaint is a seriously unstable application for me. Always was, as far back as I can remember. Draw too. Same bugs, year after year. It's too bad.
I agree that it "shouldn't be a new version update," as you say; however, if that's what it takes to get rid of these "same bugs, year after year" then I'm all for it! I would rather they focus their efforts on the bugs than the new features. That's all I'm saying. Because it's most likely not the developer's fault, right? They are given a job and they do what they are told. They are given a time frame to complete whichever goals to which they are assigned. The *problem* is that they aren't being assigned these crucial bug fixes. Instead, I'm sure marketing is at their back asking them to push out these new features so they can hook the customers for the next version. I'm a developer so I know what it's like. It's too bad they aren't more concerned about the stability of the product. New features don't mean crap if they don't work properly, but they sure look nice on the box!

That's what they need to do.
I've recorded tons of bugs on both PP

and Draw:

I just wrote to someone who suggests the problems are on my computer... after reading this thread it's obvious that Corel needs to fix their software.
Just like the response above... make sure you get sp2. It just came out, and *may* have a fix for that problem where the memory slowly gets eaten until PP dies.
Please feel free to write your bugs on either list. I hate feeling like I'm the only one complaining. I'm also on the developer side of things and it is a major pain when an hour of work is just gone... X5 is not well thought through. I totally agree that a million 'features' are @$#%@ if the rest of the program doesn't work. There are so many things, but one of my favorite problems is that the custom brushes aren't saved in the workspace. Really?!
So many people have written asking if 64 bit or 32 bit is better. The crashing problems must be threading related. You cannot avoid it. eg. I was just moving a few images down to the left a few days ago, using the arrow keys and crash. Unstable!
I recently went from a lean and quick P4 3GHz to a new i7. While it's great to have more processing power, Corel is still just as unstable (I haven't had much experience with sp2 yet though... only 2 crashes so far after about a week?).
I have Vista 32 which works rock solid for everything else (eg. VS2005) except X5 PP and Draw.
If you have X4, go back to it until sp3 comes out.
If you don't have X4, make sure you get sp2... they won't say exactly what they fixed, but there's hope the threading problem might be smaller.
You cannot avoid the problems.
How are all you guys getting on now with SP2? Has it fixed most the of the issues you have been having? I can use PPX5 all day (8hrs+) without a single hitch, so it is certainly stable enough for me.
I hope you guys are now having the same stability that I am.
