Hi,
How do I make a bitmap become transparent using CorelDraw and Corel Photo Paint?
Thanks
Simon Yee
Hi Simon,
in Photo-Paint you have to be working with an Object (layer) to be able to use transparency; you cannot apply transparency to the Background layer. If you look at the Background layer (in the Object Docker) you will see a small icon on its right hand side with 2 squares a little arrow. Click on that icon and your Background will change to show Object 1. Assuming you have just opened an image so there was actually something on the Background to begin with, you can now lower the Opacity Slider at the top of the Object Docker to apply transparency to the Object. Each Object can be adjusted independently for Opacity/Transparency.
There are various other ways to apply transparency to an Object in Photo-Paint, but if you are that new to Photo-Paint it is best not to confuse you at this stage.
In CorelDraw, in the Toolbox on the left hand side of the screen there is a flyout with the Interactive tools (Blend, Contour, Distort, Drop Shadow, and various others). Click on the Transparency Tool, it is the last item in the flyout. If you don't have any objects selected on your page yet, click on one and then you have 2 initial choices:
It sounds like you really need to read the manual and/or the help files though. What you are asking is covered and it should be your first port of call. The forums are great to help you with an issue, but should not be the first place to go when you don't know how to do something because you haven't look in the Help files or manual. It is a lot better for everyone if you know something about what you are trying to do and we only need to point you in the right direction, or tell you what you did wrong. You are basically asking for a whole tutorial as this is an involved subject. Photo-Paint has some very intricate ways of working with transparency, but without a basic understanding of how things work it would be a waste of time going into all the detail.
Good luck Simon, I hope that gets you started.
Best regards,Brian.
