HI.
If you're trying to distort a single object arond a sphere the only thing I can think of is a custom artistic media brush.
The envelope tool in Draw doesn't do a good job of it.

Hi George.
For multiple objects, but not for stretching/warping a single item around a sphere.
My method to wrap things around a sphere is a manual/artistic eye one. you take the vector you want to wrap, draw the sphere you want to wrap around, then use the envelop tool. if you click on the vector with the tool selected it will get a box with nodes on the sides and in the middle of the long sides. these you can click and drag etc like normal node editing.
you can have the snap to objects on (ctrl z) and it will help you get the vector nodes you want snapped to the line of the sphere. after it is warped to your satisfaction, you can delete the sphere. If you look in your object manager you will see that this graphic now has a little plus next to it, with envelop below it. if you are satisfied with this image, just click ctrl q to convert it to a curve again.
you just have to keep going till it looks right. Please note, however that if you use a group of vectors this might work in wierd ways, as each path in the group gets warped diffferently. It can become a nightmare so rather stick to simple single layer objects.
this envelop tool can also work with text if it is converted to paths and turns into a vector image. draw the shape you want to make, then just snap to objects the vector to the shape.
patience and good luck.
I just stumbled upon this question looking to create the same effect. The answers here didn't work for me, so I kept looking around and I found this youtube video that shows the LENS tool, which works for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncu6aMkWIco
