Installed X5 on laptop but didn't register. Wife stepped on lap and cracked LCD so I can't see screen. I have Westinghouse monitor but it won't work on this laptop. I have new laptop but can't find the install disc. I have removed the hd from the old lap and can read it and access the setup file. It is asking for the serial number. Is there a way to retrieve it?
Is the LCD totally destroyed, or can you see enough to run a program on the old machine?
What is the model of the laptop?
If you have registered the software to your Corel account (if you have one) then you should be able to retrieve your serial number by logging in into your Corel account.
The LCD is totally gone. That is why I tried my external monitor....The old machine is a Dell 1525
That's the first thing I did but I apparently didn't register it.
Do you know the keystrokes to enable the external monitor? I found this, but not sure if it applies to your model:
"For Dell notebooks you should be able to toggle between internal LCD, external display and both using the Fn+F8 key combination. This is supposed to be working at a hardware level (motherboard/BIOS) and not dependent on the OS that is running on the system".
If you are able, first reset the monitor into its factory default condition so it is not looking for a specific screen resolution. If it has more than one input port, you may need to ensure that the VGA port is working -- best to plug it into another machine to confirm that it is enabled.
