What is this onscreen madness going on when I attempt to scallop a rectangle?
Looks like you are trying to scallop a rectangle whose corners are already scalloped. The onscreen preview is showing what will happen when you do this (if you hit apply, this is the result).
If you're trying to make a rectangle with scalloped corners, simply create a new rectangle, then change the corner type to scalloped (rectangle tool toolbar), then adjust the radius via the rectangle tool toolbar. The FSC docker is a destructive operation, meaning that if you apply this to a rectangle, the result is a curve.

No the rectangle was "virgin". This was my first and only attempt to scallop the corners. The results were perfect but this was what I saw when I applied the effect.
Again, no need to scallop the corners of a rectangle in X5, rectangles can do this natively.
If you do wish to use the FSC docker, the preview is what will happen if you apply a second scallop. Since you're still in the docker, the preview needs shows what will happen when you apply the scallop (the second, or third, or forth time).
Attached is an image of a rectangle being scalloped once, then twice, and the preview of a third scallop (I've reduced the radius of the scallop in each subsequent step)
I guess I don't quite understand "rectangles can do this natively". I just purchased X5 and only have it on my home system. I have yet to work in it extensively. It won't run on the dinosaur here at work.
Check out the attached file. The corner type can be defined on the rectangle toolbar.
What a handy and much-needed addition. Thanks for pointing it out!
