Hi,
Good day to everyone.
Yesterday one of my friend asked me how to create star with round edge as opposed to pointed edge. Quite fascinated by his challenge I started my beloved CorelDraw and drew a star with 40 spikes at a depth of 10. Since the stars have pointed edge, I used the Filler tool to round-off the sharp edges, I was successful, but the fillet tool also rounded off the lower (inside) node. hence I failed, to create what my friend had challenged.
One option is to create a star, then painfully select only the outer nodes and use the fillet tool to round off the edges. Is there any other easy method of doing the same in CorelDraw.
( My friend apparently uses the rival program Adobe Illustrator and mocks me using CDR )
Thanks in advance,Best Regards,S. Sakthivel
Select the outside nodes, open the Fillet, Scallop and Chamfer Docker and choose the radius according the size of the object
Dear Ariel,
Thanks for the reply. I used the exact same method for creating it and I've already mentioned in my question post. Is there any other way for creating the same.
The problem with the fillet tool is it works only on curves, any object not as curves will be automatically converted to curves upon using fillet tool. You will not be able to change the number of edges in the object afterwards.
Another method that I found is first create a star with the per-defined edges, apply a round nib outline with a thick point say .25 - .3 mm, Now convert the outline to object, then using the resultant object create a boundary, thus way the inside nodes of the star will remain sharp, but the outer edge will be rounded.
Hope Team Corel hears us and come with an easy option of just specifying the corner radius in the next version.

Well, you don't need to convert to curves. There're several ways to do the same job. Try this:
Create a shape using the Polygon tool. Adjust the number of spikes at depth.. Take the Shape tool (F10) and double click on any branch for add a node. That must create a node on all branchs. Then, convert the segment to curve, an adjust the shape. Moving one, all the branchs (or spikes) will have the same transformation, All without to convert to curves.

Exactly what I was thinking, but you don't need to create any nodes to do this.
Eyes and smile are optional.

Grab 2, an inside and an outside node convert the node to curve (not coverting the object to a curve, just changing the node from line to curve) Select an outside node and click Smooth Node. Boom You've got a rounded point star.
Nice one Mike !!
The Polygon tool in Draw creates rather amazing shapes actually.Once created it is possible to manipulate individual nodes with the Shape tool, and all nodes at the same position on every corner will change accordingly.Nodes can be added or deleted and curves can be manipulated. And later, It is still possible to change from a five point polygon to a six point, for example.
Can this be done in Illustrator? How does one create a star with rounded corners in Illustrator?(questions to Sakthivel's friend, or anyone else)

Hi, Ronny,
Thanks for pointing out. I asked the same question to my friend (says he's a pro in illustrator) and he refereed to the following You tube Video
www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYpxbaVbvHI
After watching it, it was my turn to laugh at him, as the video was showing is creating scallop (coreldraw term) using illustrator
Thanks everyone for the replies.
BTW did anyone try the multigon tool from oberonpalace. the tool had much more to do, I would love if the corel folks take a note and incorporate it in future version.
Multigon tool url is at

Works only with Corel X6
