Hi,
I have been running corel x5 for about 2 years now and all of a sudden I tried to open a new blank document and it crashed the program saying that Corel Draw has encountered a problem and needs to close??
Extremely frustrating, ............Can anyone please HELP!!!!
How long since you last used X5 and knew it to be working?
If it is fairly recent, you might want to try a windows system restore, back to whatever date you last knew it to be working. In doing that, you will first see some of the recent changes -- windows updates, new installs etc. If you see a recent installation that you don't need, you can cancel the restore and uninstall that individually in case it is the problem.
Probably about 3 months ago. I have tried reinstalling Corel X5, but know different...
If I do a windows restore what data do I stand to loose., email history etc????
A windows restore does not lose any program data, but it will uninstall any programs installed since the restore date, and will revert any program updates. It will show you a list of programs that will be affected before you begin.
In 3 months you will probably have rather a lot to undo. There will be a lot of windows updates if nothing else. So, its probably worth checking other possibilities before you do that.
Are your windows updates fully up to date? Some recent updates had problems. Microsoft has re-issued them to correct those problems. A new windows update will ensure you do not have the unfixed versions.
I would also install the latest .net download (suggested version 4.0 for XP or 4.5 for win 7).
Try the F8 reset (hold down the F8 key while starting CorelDraw). This will lose any special configurations you have set up (keystrokes, etc) so probably best to do this last.
