EXIF data - Export for Web

Here's something I find baffling.

  1. Open a .jpg image.
  2. Save as a .cpt.
  3. Export for Web as 1.jpg.
  4. Close the .cpt image and reopen it.
  5. Export for Web as 2.jpg.

The differences between 1.jpg and 2.jpg is that the latter is stripped of EXIF data and the file size is obviously smaller.

Useful to know if you want to keep the EXIF data with the .jpg (or not). Is there a simple explanation for this?

  • Hi Shelly.
Here's what a recent check in my PhotoPaint X6 came up with. The original was a JPEG straight out of the camera.

    1. Saving , or Exporting as a CPT or PSD discards the EXIF data. It's gone forever.
    2. Saving or Exporting as a TIF discards the EXIF data. It's gone forever.
    3. Saving or Exporting as a JPEG saves the EXIF data.
    4. Export for Web discards the EXIF data.

So for your requirement, use Export for Web. The EXIF data will be discarded. Be sure not to overwrite the original. Somebody may start hollering for the EXIF data. Also set the format to JPEG or whatever you want.

I agree with Roy about discarding EXIF data for CPT files. It's a big irritation. Why did some programmer go out of the way to discard the EXIF data.
