I'm working on a complex document with a lot of text. It was first created with X5. When I opened it in X6, there was a bar near the top that asked to "update" the fonts. I indicated "yes". I worked on the document for about 4 hours, and then saved it and exited CorelDraw. Today when I first opened the document, the fonts are corrupted - capital letters where lowercase should be, spacing is random - some characters on top of others and some too far apart. I closed the document, re-booted my computer and reloaded the document. Now the there is still corruption, but it's different - different letters are capitalized and there are different spacing problems.
What can I do to fix this??

Follow Up: It appears that this problem occurs only with SmallCaps.
Bert the attached file has your text I got from the Zipped file and a copy converted to curves plus the text I tested. Like I said the text look fine when I opened it, but when you open the file if it's messed up you'll know it's something in your computer.
George
Hi George,
I see that you rasterized the text - so if I'm understanding you correctly, it opened fine on your computer.
One question - you mentioned you have v 6.1 - I'm not sure I have the same. My HELP | ABOUT indicates version 16.1.0.843. Can you confirm that this is the same version you're using?
Well, I realized that CorelDraw X5 was still installed, so I removed that and rebooted. Now, I CAPS works fine, but Small Caps doesn't work at all - it just looks like normal text.
But all of the spacing/caps corruption is gone. I guess that's progress.
follow-up - I was wrong. Corel is very flaky - sometimes things work OK, but sometimes they don't. I'm getting corruption on any font-styles now - small caps, caps, etc. I did a "repair", but it did no good. The problem seems to appear most often when opening older (x5, etc) files.
FWIW, I have an i7 with 12 GB RAM.

Something to try ... in this order:
The font nav in X6 has some problems ... actually, more than just "some" problems, especially in win7 64 bit ... and until it is fixed, you are better off using the X5 version which seems to work even with X6.
You will probably need to find and delete the font catalogue (search for FontNav.fdb) and make a new one. This primarily fixes prevents false listing of regular and italic fonts as duplicates of each other, but might possibly also have some bearing on the smallcap problem.
When you had your ALL CAPS problems ( I understand they were gone since your last reboot ), do you remember if your had A LOT of other programs running? I suspect this problem might only show up if a lot of memory is used causing CorelDRAW to use the high memory addresses, i.e. beyond 4 GB.
That is because if you have fewer programs running, they will all use the memory below 4 GB. But once you have a lot of programs running, they start to use the memory above 4 GB and for 32 bit software that were ported to 64 bit software : this is more likely to cause problems if a spot was miss-swept or missed at all.
Rebooting generally fixes the problem because then you will start fewer programs and you will end up running below 4 GB.
Also, to those thinking that doing anything to font navigator will fix their problems in DRAW : This is EXTREMELY unlikely. That is because both application are pretty much independent. The only place where this might have some form of impact is in the panose font matching dialog where BFN is used to install and uninstall font. But once your document is open in DRAW, BFN has zero impact : nothing at all.
Thanks for the input, Claude.
I'm not at my computer today - I'll try unloading everything tonight to see if it helps. I'm not running that much, but it can't hurt to try!
FWIW, my computer is an I7/3.2ghz with 12GB RAM.
The documents I work on are fairly complex (a LOT of text). As far as memory goes, ALL versions of CorelDraw (been a user since V2) have had memory issues. I've made it a habit to shutdown and restart every hour or so, otherwise CorelDraw will fail and shutdown. It usually does this when saving, and I'll lose whatever I've worked on. I've created all kinds of backup procedures while I'm working on a document to avert such disasters, but they do happen every so often anyway.
Bert with the computer you have I wouldn't think there would be a memory problem, I have half the ram you do and don't have a problem at all. One thing you may try is at the Windows "Stat" menu do a search for %temp%, select all and delete them. ( Windows wont let anything that is in use be deleted, I do this on a fresh reboot so not so many of the temp files will be in use.) Also you could clean up the "Registry".
Claude,
Thanks for the follow-up and suggestions.
It indeed is a memory issue. I unloaded everything I could and the "test" document that I created earlier loads fine. I'm not sure if one app or just the combined effect of all of them did the trick.
Any idea when the next update will be??
thanks,
Memory issues like that are random by nature so I'm not surprise you cant duplicate it anymore. This is why this bug stayed in the application so long : we just could never replicate it until today.

I don't know and I am not allowed to say anyway. With our new concept of premium membership, updates are supposed to be more frequent. Well, I think. Again, I have no idea : it is up to management.
You referenced "Premium Membership" where updates are supposed to be more frequent.
I can't find any reference to this on the Corel Support site. Is this available now?
