Hi!
Trying X6 I found thing that's really annoying: every time I open my old files I have "Update text...." blue bar appearing.
In fact, for many years of work I have thousands files. So what...everytime I'm going to edit old file I see this blue bar.
Ok, I agree it.s new feather of X6 that let us work with open type. But... everytime appearing blue bar.... it's really uncomfortable. How to switch off this notification? Or set "Update text" to auto to default mode?
In general. there'e many installed fonts with "O" sign, that means Open Type - but pressing Update Text gives NO RESULT.... So, in this case you have good question - For what this notification?...if it doesn't work....
Repeat: How to off appearing "Update Text" notification blue bar?...or set it to AUTO Update default mode and not shown again....it makes me really annoy and slow the works... till fix this problem returned to X5
Thanks for any suggestion!
Hi,
The update text notification will be flashed everytime an old file is opened that has atleast one text object. Once you hit the update button and save the file, it won't ask again for that file.
The reason being X6 comes with completely redesigned text engine with advanced text features. If you intend to use advanced text features like opentype features, glyphs etc., you will have to update your file with new text engine so that you can take benefits of new features. If you don't want to use new text features, then you can ignore updating text engine in old files.
However, it is recommended to update to new text engine, because it not only gives you advanced text features but there are many bug fixes included in the new text engine.
Not all opentype fonts have advanced characters/glyphs and thats the reason you are not able to see opentype features for all opentype fonts even after updating text engine.
Best example is the font called "Gabriola" which comes with Windows 7 and higher operating systems.
Try this font with new as well as old text engines and you will notice the difference.
I don't think there is any way to turn off text update notification as of now.
Pratik, thanks for good information!Global, I just wanna that my question (and all questions on this forum from other users who wrote about "blue bar") ... I just hope developers of X6 will read it and maybe fix it to next SP/upgrade....maybe not fix, but give us the choice.I don't want every time see it and lose my time to press the button. I suggest to bring this Update Text to Default settins. If I wanna see it - ok, if I wan't - for example, I check the item - Auto update old files text. And Save settings as Default. ....or - "Do not show Update Text. Automatic update"I fear to imagine how I can work if I'll see notifications about all new features:- Your old file has gradient fill. To get new features UPDATE your document! - blue bar- Your old file has rectangles. To get new features UPDATE your document! - red bar- Your old file has Bezier lines. To get new features UPDATE your document! - green bar- Your old file has strokes. To get new features UPDATE your document! - orange bar
- Your old file doesn't have Mastihin. Don't you know about this? UPDATE your document!...etc.
I think it will be nightmare.
By the way I agree it's good at first time when you start use X6 to accent us about this options of Open Type font. But next... it becomes annoying.
To add to what Pratik suggested, I DO NOT update the text from older files when I want to make no changes in the file but want to re-print my old job. I have tried updating all files without any issues till date. However I do not update older files (meant for reprint purpose only) just to be risk free.
