Duplicate Vectors

Whenever I use auto trace on a bitmap corel saves 2 of every vector in the dxf file when it is saved, When I import the DXF files in to VCarve it works if the file is not very complex but when their is a image with a lot of detail it crashes. Is their any way to get corel to only create 1 vector?

Thanks,

Matthew

  • I am guessing that your objects each have a fill and an outline. As far as I can remember, most programs that create DXF files create a separate object for the fill and the outline, giving the impression that there are two objects. That is certainly the way most DXF files import back.

You probably need to remove either the fill or the outline from each object before exporting.

If that's not the problem, then a small example traced CDR file would be useful (you can upload it on the options tab when you reply).

    • I'm saving the DXF files with no fill when I export them, Im a relatively new user so please stick with me while I figure this out.  What should I try to remove the outline or fill before I save?

      • attached a traced file  this one is 100X simpler than what I would normally use but its all I have on this computer at the moment. Normally I am tracing rather complex patterns to be drag engraved on to designs for school.

        • Simple is good, for debugging.

What export version are you choosing in the DXF output?

            Harry,

I am exporting autocad 2008 DXF files

Hello Matthew; DXF files are from AutoDesk, and they were made for line drawings. But when you scan a raster file sometimes the lines double back on there self ( Usually at a open spot in the trace.) and if you use the Shape Tool and move a node you fine a node under it, and you have to remove one of the lines by dragging the node to a pile out of the object until you get to the place they started to double back on there self, brake the node and delete the pile of nodes you made and start again were the node was supposed to join.
If you can post a file that you've scanned we can take a look at it for you.

            George,

I am getting 2 closed vectors at the exact same spot of the exact same shape, its like I hit select all, copy, paste and did not move the pasted object.

            • Matt How did the DXF file I posted turn out?

              George

              • It worked, there is only a single vector
