I've setup a CorelDraw X6 document by inserting a background image. I'm using this bitmap to trace over. You can D/L the file HERE.
I added a layer over the top of this image to trace on (the background image will be deleted once I'm done).
My question is, how do I make my drawing layer semi-transparent, almost pure white, with just enough of the bitmap showing beneath to reference it?
Hello Ricegurg; It depends on how close the drawing has to be to a scale. ( It's a poor picture to work from.) What I would do is work in sections, locking down a section of the pic. and drawing over it with a lite color like white or yellow.
Good Luck, George
Ricegurg. I like that.
I could increase the resolution of the bitmap (the whole thing had to be stitched together from several screenies), but it wouldn't give me any benefit. It's actually a map from a video game editor, and you're looking at a top-down 3-D image. So stuff is layered (sewers under streets, etc). I only need it as a reference to keep track of where I'm at as I trace out lines, boxes, etc. Most of the background garbage is ignored.
Riceburg the reason for doing it in sections is to speed up the process of the redraw in Corel.
George
the speed is refresh is an important issue, specially with big images. A good solution is to add transparency to the bitmap, then convert to bitmap (you can leave "transparent background" active). That will increase the speed, more than the use of a rectangle with lens or any other
Just curious, what is the purpose or benefit of placing an object in front instead of using a lens on the object itself.
Seems unnecessary while adding complexity adding objects when the same results can be achieved within the object.
The layer with the rectangle can be toggled off quikly if greater view ability is needed for detail.
Even with using my underpowered laptop, tracing over that image is no big deal. With the desktop I don't notice any lag at all.
Thanks Mike.
While I have never needed this level of flexibility, it is certainly an interesting workflow.
Yea, I have never ran into a refresh issue tracing because of the background image, however, when the objects grow in count it can be slow.
