I've setup a CorelDraw X6 document by inserting a background image. I'm using this bitmap to trace over. You can D/L the file HERE.
I added a layer over the top of this image to trace on (the background image will be deleted once I'm done).
My question is, how do I make my drawing layer semi-transparent, almost pure white, with just enough of the bitmap showing beneath to reference it?
I never thought of the rectangle idea. Thanks for all the suggestions!
Hello Ricegurg; It depends on how close the drawing has to be to a scale. ( It's a poor picture to work from.) What I would do is work in sections, locking down a section of the pic. and drawing over it with a lite color like white or yellow.
Good Luck, George
Ricegurg. I like that.
I could increase the resolution of the bitmap (the whole thing had to be stitched together from several screenies), but it wouldn't give me any benefit. It's actually a map from a video game editor, and you're looking at a top-down 3-D image. So stuff is layered (sewers under streets, etc). I only need it as a reference to keep track of where I'm at as I trace out lines, boxes, etc. Most of the background garbage is ignored.
Riceburg the reason for doing it in sections is to speed up the process of the redraw in Corel.

the speed is refresh is an important issue, specially with big images. A good solution is to add transparency to the bitmap, then convert to bitmap (you can leave "transparent background" active). That will increase the speed, more than the use of a rectangle with lens or any other
