I am wondering if there is a way to reverse only the text that is touching the clipart.
Helloe sackman; One way of doing it is to brake the text apart and group the two pieces color as needed. Screen shot below.

You only need to select the two objects and combine them :
This also means you can put the join within a character, as above, rather than between them.
You can Combine the text and the object, or use Arrange>Shaping>Intersect to get two separate pieces.

This exactly what I am trying to do.
The "combine" is not highlighted and intersect doesn't give me that effect.
