I create a graphic in CorelDraw X7. I export it to a PNG. In the export parameters I select a width of 324 pixels. The resulting image is 323 pixels. How can I tell it that I want exactly 384 pixels?
I was frustrated with similar problems many years ago (Corel Draw 4), but the problem was solved long ago. Specifically, I don't have this problem in version X3.
Thanks
It’s been like this forever. It’s caused by anti-assailing of the object, if it is not aligned perfectly to the pixel this will happen. Object hinting will help, otherwise, change your document settings to pixels, turn your view to pixel, zoom in and note how the objects edges align to the pixel.
But it HASN'T always been like this. I remember having problems like this when I first started using CorelDraw, in, like, 1993. But it was fixed and I haven't had this problem for the last 15 years.
Specifically, I just opened the same document in CorelDraw X3, saved it as a PNG with a width of 324, and the result was 324.
Now I was thinking of upgrading to X7, and this was the very first thing I tried to do with it, and it fails. The bug from the '90s is back.
I know all about anti-aliasing, but if I ask for a result that's 324 pixels, then give me 324 pixels. Don't tell me that "computers don't work like that", because the older version worked just fine, and so did the 8 or 9 versions before that one.
I don't mean to sound unappreciative of your suggestions, but I think we have to face the fact that this is a bug. It can be done correctly with "maintain aspect ratio" turned on, and it can be done without hints, and it doesn't have anything to do with whether the shapes have outlines. It's just frustrating to me that something that was fixed over a decade ago has suddenly stopped working.
I do appreciate all your effort trying to help me. Thanks.

X5 introduced the pixel view; this view is to represent a more accurate account of what will be exported.
So forever is X5, X6, X7, and probably X infinity.
Did you do as I suggested, once you understand the power of the pixel view and how your exported images will benefit from it, you might not think it is a bug.
However, if this is more work than you require, simply change the overstated pixel in the export window, it works well in removing the aliased pixel.

No problem, I felt the same as you when I first worked with it, could it be better, sure, however, the results I am getting now compared to previous versions without it are great.
Frustrated ... usually I don't design in pixels, nor millimeters, nor inches. I just make it look the way I want it to look with no regard to units. When it comes time to export, I expect to be able to tell the application I want 324 pixels wide, or 807, or 133, or 12000, and let the computer figure out that this is 17.226%, or that it's 311.267 dpi.
There have been times I've been frustrated because I wanted even more control at the pixel level, and so I'm glad there's this new pixel mode, but I sure do wish there was a way to say "please do it the old way".
That being said, I went back to the design window, selected the object, and set its width to be 324 pixels, with a zero offset.
When I try to export, the dialog defaults to 325 pixels.
I change it to 324 pixels, and it still comes out as 323 pixels.
I tried again, leaving it at 325 pixels, and it comes out as 325.
I tried again, this time setting the percentage to 99.6923% (which is 324/325), and it comes out as 323.
Assuming I wish to embrace the new pixel mode, how do I convince the application that I want the result to be 324 pixels?
David:
Did you click on the objects and select Object>Object Hinting?
