Text with contour saving question

New to CorelDraw and im sure this is a very simple question for most but I cant figure it out.

I am trying to make a file to use on a plotter/cutter, If I start by making a word then go to "effect", "contour" and make a background for the text then go to "object", "break contour group apart", then I export, save as or publish to .pdf file I get the following when I open it in the cutter program to cut.

1. PDF  when I look at it as a thumbnail it looks great but if I open the file with the cutter program there is nothing there or its just the black text and not the red background.

Anyone that can tell me what i'm doing wrong?

  • Usually, cutting software needs you to use a spot colour such as cutcontour which the software will recognise, to distinguish it from the objects which are to be printed.

Next, you must check the PDF settings and make sure you have a combination which preserves that spot colour, rather than converting it to rgb or cmyk.

There are several signmakers who do cutting regularly, so if you can give them details of your cutting software they will probably be able to help better.
