I tried opening up a project in my CorelDraw x7 and it is loading very slow! I JUST bought a custom build computer with 16GB and fast processor, so it should not be doing this. I tried opening up the same project in illustrator and it loads just fine.
When I try and open in Corel, it loads every object and layer of object one at a time. When I try to move an object it loads everything on the screen one at a time again.
It would be very difficult to work on anything with this issue. Any ideas what is causing this? I'm thinking its a corel issue since it opens up fast in illustrator.
Hello Judy; If you just bought a Custom built computer for graphics, call them and tell them you want it set up for graphics, And tell them you Don't want any of the bull S products running on the computer at start up, stuff you want like antivirus, ect. are fine. A good CPU and mobo with 16 gig of ram should be really fast. As you can see I'm using a i5 2500K Intel on a ASRock mobo and it's the fastest thing I have made signs with. but they are old school now and newer better toys are out to build with. You can tell them that you talked to a NUT on the net that said it sounds like it's not set up right for graphics. And they can email me or call if they aren't sure how to set up a good graphics computer. Which Windows did you get??? I'm using 7 Utl.. If you want you can post a file you are having trouble with so we can take a look at it.

I really don't think its a computer thing. I specifically told them I needed it for graphics. Plus my same document opens up in illustrator just fine and fast.
My computer details are:
AMD A10-770K Radeon R7, 10 Compute Cores 4C+6G 2.40 GHz
16 GB Ram
64 bit operating System
Radeon R7 Graphics...
as mentioned above I really cant show the file because of confidentially agreement , but I will tell you its a tabloid 2 page collection with about 18 graphics on each page, no gradients or special effects, etc..
Like I earlier mentioned it loads 1 object at a time, every time I move something on the page it loads the graphics one at a time again on the page. At the current state I cannot work on anything efficiently.
Hmmm ... this is running slowly on my machine too.
I don't see a reason yet, but will look at it very closely.
I'm still not sure why, but try changing to View > Normal rather than enhanced.

I did notice that when I was trying to figure it out, but I don't want to settle for that, it makes the graphics look bad and pixelated. With a new fast machine I wouldn't think I would have to settle for that.
As far as I can see, it is the number of Pantone colors. Stripped out it runs along fine here. But the original download was slow to paint the screen.
I exported it out as a CMX, loaded it into something else and exported out a new CMX. Which I opened in X7 and resaved. I didn't take the time to determine if it was the particular Pantone palette used or what not.

your new modified file opened up fine and fast on my computer fine. But I tried it with one of my files and that did not work. So you exported it twice as a CMX? then imported and resaved as a CDR?
Here is another example just to show you guys how simple this file is and its still messing up, not loading correctly. My computer should be able to handle this plus LOTS more.
http://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/c2QeF5nP51 again.. it shows how fast it opens up in Illustrator... this feels like a Corel issue???
I am assuming that those spot colors are not important. There are too many to be practical for a press.
So...Publish to PDF. Choose the stock Web profile. Now open that up in CD.
This will convert the spot colors to RGB, which some of the swatches were in the first place.
I think you will find it zippy again.

GOOD NEWS AND BAD NEWS....
Good News is the Publish to PDF for web works!! I am able to open the PDF up very quick
BAD NEWS is I need my documents in PANTONE per clients request.
Soooo couple of questions
1. How can I fix it where corel can handle this many pantone colors?
2. How can I see how many pantone colors the document has?
3. How many pantone colors can corel typically handle?
Do be aware not all elements in the original are spot colors.
Use the add colors from document command (or whatever it is called) down at the document swatches to the left of them. There are a lot and not all of them are used.
I would add only the spot colors needed to the imported PDF. Then use find replace on each of the rgb objects (select same fill) and with all if one color selected, choose the appropriate pantone swatch. Then see if it gets slow again.

You need not fix it. Corel needs to do that.
Your document has only 24 colors. Its down in the document color palette. If not seen, reset the document palette (located at the bottom of the screen by default) and it will pick the colors from the document. I had to count the swatches though.
CorelDRAW should be able to handle PANTONE or any other color palette just as well as it handles RGB or CMYK. Your document proves that it does not.
This is an issue that should be reported to Corel... and hopefully, they will fix it...when??... your guess is as good as mine! It would be wise to note, that a ton of bugs that users have reported since the release of X7 have yet to be fixed.... even after 2 updates have been released.
CorelDRAW is just a tool, YOU, are the artist. If you have invested time and effort to become proficient with the use of other software tools that do the same job, you will never be handicapped, by broken software. It is never too late to learn :)
P.S: There is no problem with your computer! If ALL your other software works perfectly well and just one (CorelDRAW) freezes, crashes, and/or does anything other than work properly, the problem is the software, in this case, CorelDRAW and NOT your computer.
No amount of cleaning up temp files, deleting fonts, checking your RAM, changing your video card or upgrading your system is going to help. Basic common sense...if you have 10 programs installed on your computer and did not have any problems until you installed the 11th software, the problem is the 11th software, NOT your computer!. This is the reason Windows has a rollback feature which allows you to restore the computer to it last working state, that is, if you have made a backup of the system prior to installing the software that created the issue.
suku,
There is something goofy about the sample file. I rebuilt it using all the Pantone colors and it was fine.
I opened some of the files I prep for a screen printing business in X7. All Pantones with the exception of the 100% K plate. One file had a version with 13 colors and it opened fine. So did some that were originally done in X4 that I rebuilt.
That is not to say there are not issues in X7 (and X6, and ...). There are. But that file is goofy.
