How to create wrinkles?

 Hello fellow users!

I'm working on a greyscale vector illustration of a rhino. Everything is going well, except I can't for the life of me figure out how to get a 'wrinkle' effect. There needs to be varying degrees of wrinkles (some thicker than others). I would upload a pic of what I'm trying to describe, but I can't figure out how to upload an attachment on the new layout (I haven't been here in a while). Because it has to be designed in vector, it's proving quite a challenge for me. I've tried using the pen tool, as well as the artistic media, but nothing is getting it quite right. Any advice/tips would be highly appreciated.

Much Thanks :D

  • An image would help us help you. How detailed do the wrinkles need to be? Is this a realistic or cartoon rhino?

To insert an image you need to choose the rich formatting link when replying or creating a new post. Then use the Insert Media button.

    • Wow, I feel quite technologically challenged that I couldn't figure that out, thank you for that!

Something similar to the pic attached. I need it for a realistic looking rhino. A high quality trace on the image can create the wrinkles for me, but I don't want to use the auto trace. Obviously, because it has to be entirely vector, it will not look 100%, but something close enough. Maybe I'm not using the artistic media in the correct way to get a similar effect? I tried and it looks more like hairs than wrinkles...
    • You can create an artisitic media brush like examples below (Ex. 1), and control the thickness of these brushes on the menu tab.

I made a quick Corelephant brush with varying line thicknesses, then powerclipped the contents to create the first example (Ex. 2).

The third example is PhotoPaints own Elephant skin texture that comes pre-loaded. I would suggest using that texture and powerclipping the texture into the outlines.
