Hi Everybody,
I don't like the "associate" aggravation and I don't like missing thumbnails.I don't like buying a third program to get around "associate" and missing .cpt thumbnails. It's disappointing that Corel keeps shooting itself in the foot with these problems rather than releasing the .cpt specification.People keep disappearing over these issues. Do a search on the internet if you don't believe it.
I'm "at a loss" as to why anyone would recommend that Corel should not release the CPT specification.I'm "at a loss" as to why anyone would rather suffer than buy Mystic Thumbs.Anyway -- here are a few recent posts on the internet on Mystic Thumbs. There are a lot more. The one by our "Bob" is about three years old.
The Mystic Thumbs add-on will add thumbnail support for a huge number of file formats, including CDR files. Sure, it would be great if you could get the Shell Extension working. But this is a viable option and it also gives you support for many other important formats as shown at right. In my mind, that makes it even more valuable

I'd love to learn that the real honest-to-goodness Corel fix is just around the corner, but I can't even find an official Corel position on this issue. Is there one? other than: The problem does not exist The problem is the user's fault The problem is Microsoft's fault
I use Mystic Thumbs to view .pspimage files, the BOT productions thumbnail handler gave me problems some versions ago and I bought Mystic Thumbs instead -- no problems since then.

I use Mystic Thumbs, it is retail, but works for just about all graphic files, plus many others e.g. zips, rar, html etc.. It will handle all versions of PSP files and all the PSP file types. The license will last forever but you only get 1 year of updates and support. After that it is up to you ---

Patricia told me about Mystic Thumbs a few years ago. It is worth every penny. Leslie
I downloaded Mystic Thumbs and it seems to work, however, CorelDraw should be ashamed of themselves for allowing their product out in the world with this issue. If Mystic Thumbs can figure out the problem to read CDR files then CORELDRAW sure as heck should have a plugin that would fix this issue. It is hard to defend CorelDraw to Adobe fans when this type of stuff is allowed...
VBGrafx
I have mystic thumbs on my 64 bit and it works super. Even see raw thumbs.

It works for me

It's really worth buying if you're doing any kind of art/design work on a Windows system. It thumbnails just about every image type, and you can even customise everything in the control panel D I can't find a better thumbnailer to be honest. This can multi-thread, upsample, add icons, remove shadows, display vector (using ghostscript) and it's stable !

-- really love mystic thumbs, tried the demo and it was really smooth.

Phil1923 said:Why do you keep ducking the issue. First it was CONNECT. Now it's the applications that you just posted.
1 - Regarding CorelConnect, I only asked if the users who cant's see thumbnails are using or have tried CorelConnec, and if this program show thumbnaisl or not. I never said "don't use Windows Explorer, use Connect instead" as you accuse me.
2 - The applications I posted was not "my own" idea. That was posted before by other users, like John and Foster Coburn. I never tried none of those programs. I don'ta want to use thos programs, and I don't advice anybody to use those programs .Only are samples of other programs that can show CDR and CPT thumbnails, that you said is a secret code that any other company could use.
As I said before (and I should repeat, once again) I don't want to use a third-part program for a basic feature that is't part of the program that I'm already have. Although thumbnails are not relevant for me (usually, I use "details" or "list" view), it should work with Windows Explorer for all people, whithout need to buy another program.
Phil1923 said: Why do you keep implying that everyone is lying who says that the .cpt specification is not released.
Why do you keep implying that everyone is lying who says that the .cpt specification is not released.
I didn't say anybody is lying. You said that the thumbnails for CDR and CPT are a TOP SECRET code that any other company could use. I just posted some samples of other programs that already could read the thumbnails of CDR and CPT files. Then, maybe it's not a secret code.
Phil1923 said:Nobody -- absolutely nobody -- at Corel has responded with a comment that the .cpt specification has been released.
That remember me a book of Carl Sagan. One day, Sagan received a message from someone claiming to be God, and challenged him to prove that he was not God. And did the same with several other known scientists. No one answered. Some time later, he published a book in which he said: "I challenged all scientists and no one could prove that I was not God." Sagan said: "Sometimes, keeping silence is a way of saying something. That nobody has responded, does not mean anyone could do it. Maybe they just had more interesting things to do".
Phil1923 said:By now, I have to accuse you of being deceitful.
This word is now for me. Really. At least, I learn a new english word today.Thank you!
Phil1923 said:1. You make believe that you know that the .cpt specification has been released. You know nothing of the sort. 2. You keep ignoring that Mystic Thumbs handles the display of .cdr and over one hundred other file formats. 3. You keep ignoring that Mystic Thumbs does all the "associate" behind the scenes.
1 - I never said that Corel bring this information to MysticThumbs. But you said this is a secret code, and I don't believe it was so secret, since other viewer already could do this job. Or Corel sent this information only to some companies, or it's not so secret to show the thumbnails. If you can extract and show on an internal window, you can show eveywhere. The thumbnail is the same for all people, and each file has only one thumbnail.
2 - 3 You're right at this point: I don't use MysticThumbs, and I don't need it.
Phil1923 said:4. You keep saying that you do not want third party software. That's too ridiculous to argue over. Everybody here has posted that they use other graphic editors -- including yourself.
4 - Yes, I keep saying that I don't want a third party software FOR THIS ISSUE, in other words, for see a thumbnail. Although I see all thumbnails correctly, I don't want to say to each people who have a program: "pay more money for an extra program". I don't believe this is the right solution. And yes, I used several other programs along the years and today. This is not relative to this topic, I never said other people "please. don't use never any other prgram than Corel..." BTW, it was you who recommend to use Windows Explorer and don't use other program.

Phil1923 said:Why do you keep telling people to leave Windows Explorer. It's the world wide standard. Just about everybody has organized their files in Windows Explorer.
One day, you accuse me to tell people to leave WIndows Explorer and use other programs. Other day, you accuse me to tell people to don't use other programs. And of course, it's my fault always.
Phil1923 said:Why in the world do you keep up your endless campaign against Mystic Thumbs.
I don't have any campaign against Mystic Thumbs. I'm just tired that you repeat always the same: "buy MysticThumbs, although it doesn't work with CPT, because Corel has a secret code that don't want share with other companies". I want that CorelDRAW works fine, as it should do. If somebody spend money with CorelDRAW, he deserve that the program works fine. Telling people that pay more money is not the best solution, for my personal point of view. If the program doesn't works as it should be, it should be fixed. Period.
Telling people to waste money on another program is not a solution, it's just a workaround. Maybe the program is excelent, I never said it was a bad program. Of course, I suppose that Mystic works, I never said that you or anybody lies. Maybe Corel shoudl buy MysticThumbs and include on the next suite. But, if for each bug of CorelDRAW, the solution is tell people to buy another program, people will spend a lot of money. But more important than the amount of money, no matter if even it's a free solution, if there's a bug it should be fixed, and the program shoudl work fine for all people.
I'm not againts MysticThumbs nor againts you. I'm just fighting to make Corel improve, correct the problems and provide solutions.
I started a list of post of people who had the problem with Thumbnails... and solved, because you said that the ideas I suggest never worked, and the only solution was MysticThumbs, Note that it was other people, not me, who find the solutions. It's not about self-advertising. But unfortunately, the previous answer was too long, and I'm tired, then I attached only a few samples. I could also collect some similar answers from the Spanish Corel Forum, where a lot of people solved the same issue. What I dislike is that not always be the same solution for all, or that works the same for everyone. But as you say that I lie and say I never works, I want to show that is not true

Ariel I'll, keep you posted on this one I'm working on, a mess. All starts with a computer tech I'd call an idiot except that would be an insult to the idiot community.
CPT!!! Hah. The Shell Extension has been nothing but trouble for me for a long time.
You have how many versions of CorelDRAW installed on your system?
In what order did you install them?
Did you remove all previous versions of the Windows shell extension before installing X7?
Did you perform a custom install and install the Windows shell extension when you installed X7?
I ask because I'm trying to track it down and see if there is one common issue with the viewer. Unfortunately every system I have ever had access to that had this issue was a complete mess from a technical standpoint and it made singling out one issue next to impossible.

David Milisock said: In what order did you install them?
The correct order. Later versions last
David Milisock said: Did you remove all previous versions of the Windows shell extension before installing X7?
No, v12 and X5 dont have a Shell Ext.
David Milisock said: Did you perform a custom install and install the Windows shell extension when you installed X7?
Always a custom install. I do not want Corel to install on my OS drive, never have. It goes onto my Apps drive. Shell Ext gets installed with the suite. But I had problems in X7 with it not uninstalling and had to use the MS utility to remove recalcitrant apps. That seemed to do the trick. Then, now its misbehaving again.
But its back playing its old tricks and not behaving.
AND, the Shell Ext has NEVER served up the correct thumbnail in Explorer. It always shows the page contents, even when the document has no Page showing, and there are objects off the page it still shows whats on the Page. It has a thumbnail of 'All Objects' since thats what you see in the Preview Window, but the tumbnail is a partial view. BUT its not consistent, sometimes its right sometimes its wrong.
