Certain font's do not display below the baseline?

Hello,

I'm having issues with certain font's not displaying properly below the baseline. Image is below.

The first word is set to 'Artistic Text', second is 'Paragraph Text' and the third is when the font has been converted to curves.

The two fonts used are a paid font - Last Paradise and a free font - Wisdom Script.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to resolve this issue it would be greatly appreciated!

CD has had this issue. I reported it a while back and it was acknowledged. At one point I seem to recall it was fixed.

Output to PDF is also not affected. With the fonts I have, I thought paragraph text allowed the full display of the descenders. Either I am mistaken or it has crept back in.

Part of the problem is that these fonts have the Descender set at or a tad below the baseline. But some fonts, like script fonts with parts of the characters purposefully going outside the l/r bearings and ascender/descender parameters in the font on purpose.

Until Corel makes the display not contingent in the font metrics, there's not a lot one can do other than "fix" the font. I have on a few, but have gotten express permission to do so. And I only did it because even though the PDF output was fine, I needed to visualize the loops during designing.

Hey Mike,

Thanks for your reply. I've used Wisdom Script in the past on X6 with no issue, so it must've crept back in when I've upgraded to X7. How would I go about 'fixing' the font? I have the same issue where I need to be able to see the script elements during design; for some projects I could work with individual letters being converted to curves but this wouldn't be ideal for my current project.

One needs to use a font editor. However, the font license does not permit that. I would go to LostType's web site and see if you can contact the author and ask if they would alter the font.

You can take a screen shot in Windows. Use Windows Explorer, browse to where a copy of the font is and select it. If you have the preview pane on, take a screen shot and send it to him. As well, just double-clicking on it to preview the font also shows the issue.

The font's metrics has a technical error or two. One is the WinDescent is set to zero, as well as the Line Gap setting is zero. Note that Adobe applications, and some others, will show this font properly--as did CD. But they are still settings that should be more carefully set.

OK. Make sure you are patched fully.

I didn't have Wisdom Script until I downloaded it for checking the metrics. I should have tried other fonts that I know had this issue early on. I didn't have Last Paradise, but hey, what's one more font purchase more or less...

They seem to work here just fine. So, perhaps you need to update CD?

That said, the person who authored Last Paradise mucked up the fi ligature, or did it on purpose...his logo displays with the fi ligature. Dumb crap.

I've check for updates but unfortunately there are none available. I'm running Version 17.6.0.1021.

I believe that Last Paradise displays with no issues on my home Laptop (also running latest X7) but I'll need to confirm after work. Possibly this could be a display issue related to my work PC or some settings I have enabled in Corel?

In regards to the Last Paradise's fi ligature thats some seriously stupid stuff; I hadn't used that combination of letters so had never noticed it.

No worries!

Hmm. works on one computer (possibly/probably) and not on the other...I just checked my other computer and it also works there, too. I cannot think of a setting in CD that would affect the display of the fonts. I'll poke around and look, but I don't think there is a setting.

Oh, just thought of something. The download ZIP I got after purchasing Last Paradise has this name for the ZIP file and its folder:

Last-Paradise-(New-Update!)

Note the last portion. It might be that if your version was prior to the update it has been fixed. I bought this from Creative Market. But wherever you bought it from, check for an updated version if your ZIP wasn't the same name.

Yeah, the font author has the logo in 60 or so glyph positions. Pretty proud of their business, I suppose. I'll probably contact them about actually removing them or, hey, put the proper glyphs in those positions. Cannot actually write down what I'll likely do if I get blown off...

Perhaps Claude (at Corel) will see this thread.

I downloaded the font on my home laptop so will need to check it tonight to see if it had the updated ZIP.

I've noticed that the font seems to be missing at least one of its advertised stylistic alternatives, as you can see in the below image, using the Glyph Tester at https://www.youworkforthem.com/font/T5811/last-paradise shows there should be an alternative for a capital Y, but in Corel I do not have this option? Possibly I do have an older version so it is creating issues. Either that or the author of the font has just been slack in providing the entire package, I bought mine from the actual publisher (Set Sail Studios) and I cant say I'm completely satisfied.

Unfortunately, even installing the most recent font wouldn't explain the issue with other fonts like Wisdom Script. I've downloaded and installed it again but the issue persists.
