Convert to Curves X7

Just wondering if there's a way to change the behaviour of the "Convert to Curves" Right Click Command so that it goes grey if what I have selected has already been converted to curves.

This was a very handy feature of X3 that I would very much like back :)

  • Don't know if this was a bug in X7, I just checked X8 and it is greyed out after converting a rectangle or a text for example.

Edit: Checked X7 too and it seems to work as expected.
Have you applied all the updates? Build number should be 17.6.0.1021.

    • Appears to be the same build number. I think I've figured out what's happening, though.

I just tried it in a new document in X7 and it appears to work. The problem looks to be happening when I'm opening/using artwork from previous version files. X7 sure doesn't play nice with older versions!

I've been creating new X7 documents and pulling the old artwork into them so that they behave a bit better, but I can see there's still going to be some issues.

I've copied and pasted some text and a logo from a ver.12 file into a new X7 document, and converted it all to curves (in x7). The Covert to Curves text does not go grey this way, even though everything has been converted. This is unfortunate.

I tried it with an object that has no text and got the same result. Bummer.
      • Hm.
Check to see if the objects are perhaps in a group.
The Convert to Curves command will not be greyed out with groups for some reason.

But does it really matter? Don't think I've ever even thought about it.
        • Looks like after I convert it to curves in X7, it seems to group it for some reason by itself, and the Covert to Curves stays Black. Once I ungroup it (again), it turns grey! Haha, bizarre.

I suppose as long as I can Convert it, Ungroup All, and check if it's Grey, It'll work.

We keep an editable version of our artwork files and one that's been converted to curves, so it's nice to easily make sure everything I want changed to Curves is actually done.

I usually leave my proof text (actual size, screening info, etc.) in text so that it's more easily edited in the converted files, but I suppose I could sacrifice that convenience if needed and start converting everything to be sure.

          Thanks!

          • I see.

FWIW, I usually create one page where I keep all text as text, effects live and so on, and then another page with everything converted to curves and/or bitmaps to make sure I have got a "fool proof" version.
