(Later Edit: As mentioned later in thread, this applies to all files opened in Photo Paint, not just screenshots as initially thought.)This started only very recently and I did an installation repair, but that didn't fix this issue. But first here are my Default color management settings:I use Ctrl Shift N to do a New From Clipboard and while once saved as cpt or jpg it is seen in the right colors in Chrome, etc. anything dark gray turns to black.
And here again, when viewing the image directly above in PP...
This only seems to affect dark grays though I haven't tested it on other flat dark colors. Here is another example of this from a 2-screenshot image from my video editor:What it should look like and does - once saved and viewed outside of PP:
What it looks like in PP:
Truth is that on this last examples the non-dark colors were pretty off while I was working on the file. In this case I could ignore this, but in the future such color oddities are not an option. Please advise.Thank you.
What OS.
Windows 10 Home, 64-bit, Build 19043.1388. CPU Ryzen 5 1600, 40 Gb. DDR4 on Samsung SSD.
It didn't work before I uninstalled x-5 as described earlier. Now that I've re-installed X-5, the OP issue is resolved: files appear as they should in-application (in X-5 only, not X-8).However, even though now I can tell Windows to for-now open my files in X-5, clicking on file fires up (a slow) X-5, but nothing shows up in the GUI. Did a repair installation, same thing.Another issue when I had X-8 as default app, is that all .cpt files in Windows show up as icons - not thumbnails. (This never happened before except probably 2 decades ago where I fixed it with some shell hack in Windows XP). I've read at nauseum on fixes to this, and nothing has worked. With X-5 installed again, that issue is resolved; but the only way to open and file - .cpt or otherwise -- in it is to fire it up, then use "Open". That wasn't happening before I had uninstalled it.One thing gets fixed, then something else goes wrong.Ain't life in bits and bytes fun.
SOLVED: After getting a bit more familiar with color management, I just chose the "Simulate CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4" preset, in X8, hit OK. Then got the samp photo file to show in X8, X5 and a Chrome tab -- and they all matched. Finally. Before I found this solution looked into calibrating my monitor through advanced Display settings in Win 10, but stopped - for the problem was specific to PP X8. No point throwing everything off.Last, I did contact Corel support, but they refused to help since the only support CDGW 2020 and 2021. Fortunately I stumbled on the solution on my own.Case closed.
If the display works for you enjoy. Depending on what you do for a living this will come back to bite you.
Just understand that you've not really solved the problem.
It's good enough for me for I'm 66, retired/disabled and my days as a graphic designer are long behind me (ergo, not making money on anything I do).I found a thread over at Adobe about Light Room that was the exact same issue (happening only within LR, nowhere else). Their solution wasn't the same as mine, but eventual outcome was.Anyway, thank you for responding over this thread -- you were the only one who did.All the best.NRN.
I'm 67 and I tried to retire but still loads of work comes my way. If it goes wonky post and we'll figure it out.
