I am working in CorelDraw 10 and I have to send lots of files to printers and other designers that work in the Adobe world (CreativeSuites Illustrator and InDesign). I have Illustrator 7 and have finally figured out a setup that works for both but am running into problems with sending and receiving files that aren't saved low enough from the CS or they need higher versions.
My questions is does anyone recommend a higher version of CorelDRAW and/or a higher version of Illustrator. (without breaking the bank!)
The art I work with can be anything from simple pages of icons to layouts of 16 month calendar spreads and everything in-between.
Thanks!
Hi,I would upgrade to CorelDRAW X4.

Thanks for your advice. I'll do some research and upgrade!
amy3 said:... I have been trying to open a pdf in corel or Illustrator from the other designer (the one using CS3 - and file corrupt)
They are saving it from InDesign on a MAC. I've asked her to save it back to AI 7 but she said the only options are versions 8 and 3. (3 didn't work...it filled in all open spaces with black!) I just asked her to save it from Illustrator CS3 instead of ID like you recommended. I think she is getting frustrated with the incompatibility issue! It's a major licensing company for us so it's pretty important that we get this figured out!! (Like you said before...I need to upgrade to X4!!!) - looks like the sooner the better.
I'll let you know if she sends the file and if it works....keeping my fingers crossed!
thanks again!
Here is the email I just received from the other designer...she sent me a version 3 illustrator .eps that when I opened it with my v. 7 all the open spaces in the art were filled black.
her email to me................ "OK, I can only save down to CS2, CS, 10, 9, 8 or 3. I can’t save down to v. 7, which is why I had initially saved to 3. I also do not get the option to save it as a PC file, at least not when saving an .ai document. Additionally, when I save down to any lower version it does not allow me to choose any options at all, so I cannot turn off the compression option."
I'm totally frustrated!!! I asked her if she was saving it from ID or Illustrator but didn't get that answer...I've put in a call to discuss it voice to voice instead of thru email...maybe that will help. Makes me wish what I did could be done with Illustrator but Corel is so much faster and easier to get around and I know it so much better. ARGH!!!!!!

Like Stefan, I'm happy with CorelDRAW X4. In my job, we have a Mac and I use Illustrator, Quark, indesign and others. If somebody send a file, we try to use the native formaf or the more similar version. But most of the work is made only with CorelDRAW, the fast, easy and exact of all software.
If you need to send a CorelDRAW file to Illustrator, simply Publish to PDF in the File menu, using PDF X/3 or PDF for Prepress.
CorelDRAW X4 is about ten times more powerful than CorelDRAW 10. Specially for PDF and for prepress, you will have a lot of options more than the old versions. You don't need more than this
True Ariel,Good advice and tip about the PDF, and which PDF to use. But Amy3 recieves files from her client, another designer, who uses InDesign and Illustrator (maybe illustrator). Using a mac.
