Mouse Scroll Wheel

Hi,

I have an really old version of CorelDRAW 7 Select Edition which I bought years ago which I still find really useful.  The problem I have is the scroll wheel on my mouse doesn't work.  How do I get it to operate?

I have moved this program from computer to computer as I have upgraded my hardware over time and it has never worked, except mysteriously on one machine in the dim and distant past, so it must be possible, but how?

Thanks in advance

Peter

  • To get version 7 to work at all with recent versions of windows, you will need to be working in a compatibility mode -- sometimes, you need to set this yourself, sometimes windows will figure it out but you can over-ride it.

You can check the compatibility settings if you right click on the coreldrw.exe file and go to properties > compatibility. Version 7 was designed to be compatible with windows 95, and NT 4 so those are probably the most likely settings to work. But compatibility should be considered as an attempt, not a guarantee.

Better still, if you have a spare copy of windows 95 or NT 4, you could try running it in virtualbox or equivalent.

For the mouse, you should try using it with the standard windows mouse driver and again with the mouse manufacturer's driver.
