Hello everyone,
I am new to CorelDraw Essentials and this is my first post and first question. I'm an old retired guy trying to use Essentials to draw out a motorcycle training course. It will be a simple, 2-D drawing with mostly orange and green circles representing traffic cones. I am trying to remember my experience from using Micrographix Desginer(?) back in the early '90s, but not having too much success.
I have been able to get my drawing screen to show grid dots every .25 inches, which is exactly what I want. Now I want my objects to snap to the nearest grid point, but they are not lining up perfectly straight. If I move an object and release it between two grid points, it stays there. I want it to snap to the closer grid point. When I do get the object to hover over a grid point, a little # sign shows up, and I release the object, but even then, my objects are still not perfectly aligned.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Sam
Do you also have Snap to Objects enabled?
If you want the center of your circle to snap to a grid point, you will need Snap to Objects to accurately pick up the center of the circle when you start your click-and-drag operation to reposition it. Otherwise, wherever you happen to click on the circle - not the center - will be a reference point for snapping to the grid.
When clicking on the circle, you will need to be fairly close to the center in order for Snap to Objects to pick it up.
I must be doing something wrong. In the View>Snap To window, I have both Document Grid and to Object checked, but still my objects to not snap to each dot on my grid.
If you click on an object to select it, and then hover the cursor near the center of the object, do you get a visual "center" indicator to show you that Snap to Objects has found that snap point?
yes, I get that visual center, and when I think I am close to the grid point, I get a # indication, but as you see from my screen shot, my orange, green, and blue circles are not in alignment. It doesn't appear that anything is snapping to a grid point. My circles will sit between two grid points if that is where I release the mouse button. I thought it would snap to the closer grid point.
I might have figured it out, but I can't say why this works. I click and release the circle, so it is "selected", then I click off it and click back on it and move the cursor slightly until center is selected, then I move the mouse away from the still selected object, and move it to the grid point I want. I can't say I understand exactly how it works, but I seem to be able to do what I want. Thanks for the help.
I'm glad you've found a way to make it do what you need.
Even aside from Snap to Objects, Snap to Grid also automatically snaps the corners (top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right) of the selection to grid points.
