I have been attempting to install CorelCAD on my computer. I have a Dell Dimension 9200C with 4mb of RAM and am running Windows 7 SP1 with dual monitors. My Windows Installer version is 5.0.7601.17514.
The program installs almost to the end, to the point where the desktop icon is in place. When the install window reads registering software, it stops and I get the following message: " There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." At that point the program rolls back the installation.
I've run Microsoft Fix It for uninstall/install with no success. I've tried to register the software first before installation but I receive an error message that the serial number is incorrect or is a legacy program without support.
I can't find anything on the Corel website or the Microsoft website that addresses my problem.
Any suggestions?
Having exect issues & no answer yet. Check the Corel W7 compatible listing & CorelCAD is not in there.
W7 Pro x64 fully updated all patches, .NET 4.5 & VSTA 2010 installed. Same problem.
CorelCAD (v1) fully supports Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit). CorelCAD has been 1st released in 2011 (a while after Windows 7 was released), that's why it's not explicitely listed on that Windows 7 compatibility page. In general, recent Corel products/ versions are Windows 7 compatible.
Make sure you install the latest release which you can download from the Patches&Updates page on the Corel website.
The "CorelCAD May 2012 update" (12.4.056) is a full application installer that runs without previously installed version. If you experience installation issues with that release you should go to www.corel.com/support to contact the Customer Service / Tech Support team for warranty support.
Side note on OS compatibility: CorelCAD 2013 which has been released in December 2012 is compatible with Windows 7 and also Windows 8. It also features a 64-bit application version so it's worth testing the new version on Windows 7 64-bit.

Hi Klaus,
Just a note - the application that was available before it was taken down to allow for CorelCAD 2013 to be put up is also version 12.4.056 but the file size was different to the patch ( and it also works as a patch ) -
Can you please advise the difference? The final version was about 10Mb smaller than the original patch. It also seems to work as a patch and will upgrade earlier versions in a single file.
It would be great to be able to download the final installer again to save having to install and patch. Or is the May version the one to use? Given the file size difference, I am not sure.
Thanks
David
CorelCAD May 2012 update (12.4.056) is the latest release of CorelCAD (v1), before CorelCAD 2013 was launched in December.
The installer that is available on the Patches&Updates page can be used to update existing installations of CorelCAD v1, or it can be installed as new application with no CorelCAD being installed before.
In the latter case you will need to activate the software on application startup (or use it in demo mode which means you cannot save, print or output anything but open DWG files and try out the tools).
If updating an existing installation of CorelCAD, it preserves the previous activated state (so you don't have to activate your licensed product again).
Best regards,Klaus.
Klaus:
I am still experiencing this error with the patch that is available in the link you provided.
Windows 7 x64
Can't install either. The installer stops at exactly the same point on my desktop and laptop, both running Win 7 64-bit..
The CorelCAD Setup dialog says:
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
I have contacted Tech Support, but none of the hoops they mentioned helps.
I have tried:
1. Turning off internet security 2. Uninstalling internet security 3. Installing a different brand of internet security 4. Redownloaded the trial several times in case there was a download error.5. Searched Microsoft for tools to ensure installing software is okay6. Tried installing the 32-bit version.7. Tried today installing the CorelCAD – May 2012 update (Windows) - same error regardless of my efforts.
I have successfully installed multiple programs before and after CorelCAD failed to install.Have also installed all the MS updates.
I hope someone can figure out what's happening. I've used AutoCAD, and currently use Bricscad and Vectorworks which are great for large signage projects except for typographical design. Thus CorelDRAW is a must have.
As a long-time CorelDraw user, I am very interested in seeing how CDR files can be used inside of CorelCAD. Was hoping it would simply my workflow. And was interested in the exclusive offer for CorelDRAW users to purchase CorelCAD. But since I can't install, what's the point of purchasing? Besides the offer has passed...
Here's a suggestion from the Technical Support team at Corel:
The error message says that you're having a problem with the Windows Installer. Either the downloaded package is corrupted (the CorelCAD 2013.5 trial version download on www.corel.com/corelcad has been tested extensively so we're quite sure that this isn't the cause) or something in the system doesn't allow to work properly. Because installations are done by Windows Installer, a WinAudit scan result is good as additional information for Technical Support to analyze the problem.
The WinAudit tool is available here: http://winaudit.zymichost.com
WinAudit will create a scan of your machine including Operating system, Hardware and software.
Extract the file and run it.
It takes a couple of minutes to scan the machine and you will find all information on a screen.
Press the Save button to save the results as .txt (text file). If you want to save as HTML, then please send all 3 HTML files (the main, the left and the right side).
Please submit a support request using www.corel.com/support > Contact Technical Support (you need to register the product first with a Corel customer account in order to submit a request).
