Corel is no longer supporting CorelCAD activation system - Re-install not possible. MAJOR ISSUES WITH COREL.

A week ago, I suffered a hard drive failure and have been unable to re-register CorelCAD onto the new drive - Upon re-registration, I am told by the website that all registrations must pass through their support system as a part of their new policy...

Except that tickets logged through this system "disappear" and don't show up in the support queue and aren't responded to at all. Online support doesn't work and there is no way to re-install the software as it requires activation ( and the online activation system doesn't work for CoreCAD any longer )...

So I went looking on the Corel Website and according to the new Corel policy, activation of software is only available for 30 days after purchase...

WHAT IS GOING ON?

This is a major problem - Corel's new support system effectively renders CorelCAD completely unusable whenever you have to re-install it -

Klaus, what is going on at Corel? This new support policy is a major failure - Does Corel intend to block re-installs of CoreCAD software after 30 days forever? Does this mean that as soon as you have a system upgrade, change the computer you're working on or update your computer that you can no longer use Corel Software?

Because that is exactly what is happening at the moment - :(

It has now been 2 days since I was last able to use my Corel software... :(

  • Update - Corel Support are now looking at the problem, but so far are unable to offer any suggestions that I didn't already try before attempting to log the call with them the first time - It is looking like something is badly broken with the way that DRM is handled within CorelCAD, but it may be related to changing the hard disk as I have re-installed it in the past with the same code without issue during prior rebuilds.

At this point, one helpdesk ticket has gone around in a circle ( almost relogging the same ticket again ) and the other seems to have identified that they have a major issue with product activation but they don't know how to fix it at this point in time.

However it is starting to appear that it may go deeper than simple activation and appears related to DRM failure within the product when it's moved to a new hard disk drive with a new operating system. This seems to be confirmed by a second ticket with Corel that suggested that Support doesn't quite know what to do about the issue as it can't be reactivated, so they are escalating it internally.

Additionally, with CorelCAD 2014.5, there is no temporary workaround while they fix the fault - 30-day Trial activations cannot be used any more with the product ( even a new install ) - again likely due to the same failure - and attempting a trial on the newer product ( CorelCAD2015 ) is not an option as the files are sometimes not backwardly compatible between versions.

This is a fairly major fault at this point in time - I'll continue to update so that anyone else who hits the same issue can follow it through - Still no way to make it work or to provide temporary workarounds.

    David.
