So I was in the middle of making a design and it was running slow, but that's to be expected with all the nodes and effects I was using with my set up. I was making a few changes as it was mostly done and then all of my Gaussian blur effects disappeared. I started to redo the effects thinking it was just a little glitch but it happened again and then I noticed that the Ggaussian blur effects were still there but it had copied the original object without the blur effect. But all of the gaussian blur effects were extremely difficult to interact with. They are very difficult to select to delete or move around.
I decided after a bunch of back and forth for like a half hour that I would just restart the program and reopen it to see it that would help with this issue. But now the file wont open. It doesnt say the file is corrupted but it's stuck with the processing bar fully green at the bottom of the UI and its not opening the file. The Back Up File acts in the same way and opening the file after a restart on two different computers and has the same results.
What's going on here? Do I have to start from scratch?
Can you post a link to download the file? I'm assuming that you're using 2019 with all the patches. I'll try and open the files renam save as to a 2019 file and send it back to you.
To me it seems that due to a lack of resources the file may have become corrupt.
I'm not sure of any patches tbh. I've just installed the program without any additional updates I believe. unless it updates when it installs. It was installed probably 6 months ago.
Heres a Link on Google Drive: PROBLEM FILES
hopefully that works. I included the back up just in case. Thanks!
Thank you, just FYI 2019 is the only version since version 3 that I never used in production, it was that bad.
There may be patches for 2019. If I can open I'll get them into 2019 and save them as a 2019 file from 2019.
Thanks for the heads up! It has crashed on me a lot but mainly its because of a Macro we use. I don't think it used to crash nearly as much with the older versions of corel or the macro though. This is the first time I've had pseudo-corrupted files like this and we're about 6 months into using it. We never upgraded because of the Macro but the macro got a new version compatible with newer versions of corel so we started using 2019 cause my boss "upgraded" in 2019 until we realized that we couldn't use the macro anymore.
Mind if I ask why you never used it? Did you have similar issues?
I've been using CorelDRAW in pr output since version 3, 2019 was the only version I never put on line because of unpredictable behaviors that corrupted files and unrepeatable behaviors.
Imagine a donor wall with $6,000 of billable hours into it getting corrupted. That's the risk 2019 placed on my company. After 2018, 2020 was ok, 2021.5 was better, 2020 a bit better but 2023 has been rock solid.
I might go back to X8 then. Our macro is only compatible with up to Corel 2022. There was some reason I left it behind other than just being able to use a newer version. I think there's some random device with an activation of it still installed and no one knows where that machine went so we have more limited licenses with X8. It'd be a pain to revert 6 months worth of jobs into X8 compatible files though...
Would you recommend the 2022 version at all? I trust your judgement, you've been extremely helpful to us over the years with all of our questions.
Not knowing the depth of your work I can't comment on the viability of returning to X8. You may have zero need for any of the new features since X8 and if you can make money go for it.
I will describe my concept for my graphic business, a few hundred bucks up front on the right stuff returns 100 fold later. I went from an average per job billing of $150 to an average of $5,000 per job in 8 years. Alot of that is me but without the new features in CorelDRAW it would not have been possible.
If you work for someone who has the mentality that (it's working leave it alone) and does not see the growth potential that new high quality features bring. MOST BUSINESSES. Take the easy path with that company would be my recommendation for you as well as look elsewhere.
I found early that desktops worked better so I didn't have a laptop until 12 years ago and to this day I only use it on site for clients. I also found that top of the line game systems were usually poor performers, as were AMD and Xeon systems, so actually mid priced Intel systems have served me best.
My systems don't crash, I don't have lag times in redraw, Trace handles 24 MB 16 bit images with high quality traces EASILY. All core technologies for manufacturing are properly supported. Output is flawless (as long as I'm not a jerk with creating my files).
Because of my methods I have increasingly developed the need for many of the top end features the updates in CorelDRAW and Corel Photo-PAINT offer. I need the True PDF output features, (output of overplayed transparency, complex fountain fills) to mention a few. I need the high end editing in Photo-PAINT.
So $5.18 U.S. a week is nothing to me. In fact features in 2021.5 going forward have made me money due to the enhanced abilities in the program, specifically for me real quality image editing, not the silly junk AI features in the new Photoshop that only really work for web pages.
The short development cycles, with the subscription model (really producing updates as patches) has been working for me. I get something that makes me more productive each cycle. I've created a need for new features so I don't ever see me not upgrading.
If I had the troubles that some of those on this forum have I'd be bankrupt. Then again the reason I don't have many of the problems is my attitude towards what's important.
Troubles with fonts? Remove the bad fonts! Some say but Adobe can use this (what amounts to a cheap a$$ free font) who cares I use CorelDRAW. USE WHAT WORKS! Solved!
Trouble with colors? I educated myself properly about color management, problem solved.
Trouble with system performance? Stop caring about your favorite concept of a good computer. Study what works and does not work, duplicate what works. Solved!
Study and fully understand the limitations in the file formats used in graphics. Many problems solved.
So do I recommend 2022? No, not if your systems having issues with it and if your working in an environment that is not progressive in its thinking.
Do I recommend the 2023 subscription? Again in the above environment no.
Then again I don't recommend ever working in the aforementioned environment, it's just a go nowhere except broke environment.
In a progressive environment I do recommend the subscription model. I'm proof that you can work less and make more. It's not perfect but I am far from broke and hungry.
