I'm starting to think that the Corel DRAW X5 & Corel PHOTO-PAINT X5 crashes and "slowness" so many seem to experience are related to the Protexis Licensing Service (arvato digital services) errors.
Is this a problem Corel can resolve? Maybe not?
Everyone on this forum should take a look at their event log and should they find any errors related to Protexis they should complete the Customer Support form on the Protexis website:
http://www.protexis.com/support/user_contact_form.htm
Who knows, this could possibly help resolve some X5 issues, for more information on the Protexis Errors visit my Blog at:

Hello!
I'm from Germany and own X5 since 4 weeks. Same problem with this Protexis Service.Maybe this also the reason why i can't save (or export) jpg-files (from Draw AND Paint). The Dialogbox appears where i can choose the filename and by clicking on 'save' both programms crash without any comment. Really frustrating.....
it's still Corel's problem. someone agreed to use this particular vendor. if that decision results in lost sales and a renewed reputation for unstable software (which is circulating fast with this new release) then Corel needs to fix it or force the vendor to fix it. if it is a vendor problem then no SP is going to help the issue.
I have the same problems with Protexis errors. My log file shows a string of these errors coincident with Photopaint X5 crashing. I have Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Also have 12 GB of RAM. Below is the error I get in my log when Photopaint crashes:
