I'm starting to think that the Corel DRAW X5 & Corel PHOTO-PAINT X5 crashes and "slowness" so many seem to experience are related to the Protexis Licensing Service (arvato digital services) errors.
Is this a problem Corel can resolve? Maybe not?
Everyone on this forum should take a look at their event log and should they find any errors related to Protexis they should complete the Customer Support form on the Protexis website:
http://www.protexis.com/support/user_contact_form.htm
Who knows, this could possibly help resolve some X5 issues, for more information on the Protexis Errors visit my Blog at:

I get two types of error, 17 & 49
error 49 - Failed to Release Mutex Error ID = Returned Error 288error 17 - Service DLL PsiKey_2.dll was not found.
But I don't have any issues with X5 crashing - as yet.
see my sig for computer specs.
Boy am I glad we didn't rush out and upgrade.. I thought there may be issues. Anytime the software gets an overhaul it's often buggy.. I guess mutli process support etc. is a big jump..
I recently upgraded from X3 to BOTH X4 & X5.
After first spotting these errors I did some troubleshooting:
- Wiped my system & reloaded a backup of a fresh system (from a disk image). Patched it.
- Removed X3 & installed X4. Ran it a few times, Draw & PP. Checked for Protexis errors & there weren't any.
- Added X5. Ran Draw & PP X5 & checked for errors. Yep, they are appearing now. Failed to Release Mutex
ALSO
- Ran Draw & PP X4 again & checked. Now there are errors when starting X4 too. Service DLL PsiKey_2.dll was not found
Contacted Protexis via their web site & they provided a patch.
It resolved the Mutex errors when starting X5.
It did not resolve the 'dll not found' error produced by X4 after installing X5. I told them this but I did not get a response.
This story is exactly the same on my XP laptop and on my Vista 64-bit desktop (& took way too much time lol but now I have updated fresh systems on both and refreshed backup disk images so that's good a good thing).
