Adobe's New Subscription Plans

Adobe recently announced their new subscription based monthly and yearly plans with the launch of adobe cs5.5.  I see this as a threat to Corel Draw being that it will give access to design tools for as low as $20 a month.  I know over time you will be out of more money but to someone who is not willing to shell out $500- $1,200 upfront and need legit software right away they now have another option from adobe. Looks like a good move for adobe but if other companies don't follow it may be bad for the market.

How it works

Subscription editions of Creative Suite software are just like regular Creative Suite products — they are installed on your computer and provide all the same features and functionality. Choose a one-year plan for lower payments or a flexible month-to-month plan you can stop and restart as needed. Either way, you'll have ongoing access to the latest version of your software at no extra charge as long as your subscription remains active.

Who it's for

  • Customers of an older version of Creative Suite
  • Customers no longer eligible for upgrade pricing
  • Freelancers or owners of small businesses
  • Anyone who needs the flexibility of software on an as-needed basis

Plan options

One-year plan
The one-year plan offers lower monthly payments and requires a one-year commitment. This is the ideal plan for someone with an ongoing need to use Creative Suite software.

Month-to-month plan

The month-to-month plan provides the flexibility of a short-term commitment that allows you to stop and restart your subscription as your business needs change.

  • Hi Jeremy,

I hope you are not here promoting Adobe! Starting up a discussion on the idea Adobe has come up with is one thing, but posting every single detail including the prices is going too far! It is almost as though you are saying "Hey, for anyone interested, look what you can do with Adobe now!"

I looked back over your history since joining these forums and you have barely participated at all. Why all of a sudden this great amount of detail of what Adobe are doing? If I have you all wrong then I apologise, but I have my doubts.

    Not good.

  • Hi Andru,

I have no issue with you at all, just so you know ok. Big Smile I must admit that I think if you did a survey in here you would find a VERY high percentage of the people using CorelDraw are using it because they actually prefer it and because you can do a lot things much faster in Draw than Illustrator. I know this is not the case with you and you would prefer to use Adobe products. I respect your preference.

However, this is a forum for helping people to use CDGS, not to advertise Adobe and try to take people away from Corel; this is a Corel website afterall. The poster was therefore not helping anyone at all. It is the very fact that a lot of people in here are loyal to their craft that they are using CorelDraw! They are not jumping on the bandwagon with this "Industry Standard" waffle - they are running businesses and want to do things efficiently.

At the end of the day, I couldn't care less who likes what better, who uses what and so on. I just think it is disrespectful to enter a Corel forum and promote Adobe. I know the Adobe forum members would very quickly tell a person where to go who was doing the same with Corel in their forums. I only had to mention the word Corel in the Photoshop newsgroups and I was instantly attacked, lol, and I was not not promoting it either. I might make a simple statement like "In Corel Photo-Paint there is a feature where I do this and this....how would I do the same thing in PS please?" OMG, some sensible ones would offer useful suggestions, the rest would start ridiculing Corel and saying it was for amateurs, blah blah blah. My favourite part of that was when I would challenge them and say...come on then, post an image for us all to work on and SHOW ME how wonderful your results are compared to mine. I never once got a taker. All talk and no action. I ended up teaching myself PS, as I had done with PP. I love both programs by the way, but I have only played with Illustrator on someone else's computer and didn't know what I was doing. Even when my friend showed me a few basic things...they weren't really basic. Draw spoils us with ease of use.

    Thanks for responding, Andru.

    Best regards,
    Brian.

  • Hi again Andru,

I typed and posted my last response before seeing what you had typed in your second response to me. Now that post was a good one because you clearly stated why it is productive to you. I am not a graphic designer to begin with, but if I was and I had to deal with Adobe files all the time then I would definitely get up to scratch with Illustrator and use both Draw and Illy in conjunction with one another. I think many in here already do that. It is insane to try and work with Illy files in Draw alone, it is not going to work.

The sad thing after reading your second post is that you misinterpret me and this is a real problem when communicating by "text". I could type one sentence and have it interpreted 3 different ways. I could say something while sitting here smiling and while you read it and think I am angry, as an example. There was no argument sort after here, just interest in what you think is more efficient about the Adobe products. You gave me a great direct answer and there is no argument at all. Not even a tiny debate! LOL

    Have a great day,

    Brian.
