Somehow my dockers started displaying in two columns side-by-side, where they used to be all on top of one another. Nothing I've tried has resulted in my getting it back the old way. Can someone please tell me what I did and how to reverse it?
Thanks,
Ellen
Hello ellenelle; There's always the F8 trick if you want to start over and rebuild your work space from scratch.

Thanks, but I'm really hoping there are other ways!
I think that happens if you accidentally or intentionally drag one of the dockers as if to undock them, but release it exactly on the left side of the existing dockers. But I don't remember exactly how to get them back into a single column. Logically I'd expect to be able to drag it back again, or to move it to the top of the dockers column, but I seem to remember that not working.
What happens if you close all your dockers individually (using the X at the bottom of their tab) and then reopen the misplaced docker first?
setting docker positions is just weird. They is no information , that I have found, in help or the big book or anywhere as how to set them the way you want them.
If you have one open and stick it to the edge of the work area then open another and drag it to the same spot . It might, might end up with it's own tab and you can open and close either. OR it might become part of the first dockers tab. Sort of a "sub file" . The best way I have found is to first roll up all the dockers on the edge of the workspace. Then drag the one you want to add in to the edge and stick it to the bottom of the box that shows all the rolled up dockers. You will see a line when they are going to be their own docker and not part of a subgroup. Then you can unroll all or as many as you want to work with with out having to launch them from the toolbar.

In X6, and X5, there is a visual indication how the docker will be placed in relation to the others.
Drag the misplaced docker to the left, to make it float. Then drag it back into the stack, and you'll see a grey line indicating how it will snap.First a single line. This will add it outside the others, and that's not what you want.Drag a little more and you'll see a grey rectangle, which is the correct position for you.Keep dragging and the line will appear at the right hand side, which will make the docker end up in a new column to the right of the other dockers. It is also possible to drag it upwards or downwards. A grey line will again indicate if the docker will end up on top or bottom of the others.
Unfortunately there's no way to change the "stacking order" for a column, except by making them all float (or close them) and then drag them back (or open) in the desired order.
