I've posted questions on this forum before when I started using X5 2 years ago. I've played with it more since then (but not as much as I would like due to school/work). I just have some questions about the program and some problems I came across while doing my art:
I can't think of anything else. Sorry for so many questions. Thanks in advance.
The forum is a good place to begin. Many times you will find somebody has seen your problem and found a way to resolve it.
I'd suggest though that you only post one question per thread, unless those questions are very closely related. Forums work best when every post in a thread relates directly to one question. After the tenth post, this thread is either going to get very confused or is going to focus on just a couple of the questions, leaving the others ignored.
Taking one that has a simple answer ...
treble said: I know they have patches for x5. Do I have to download them all? Is the latest one all I need? When i first got coreldraw there were only three and I thought I was supposed to download them all. Would having all three mess it up?
You only need SP3 and the hotfix, both at http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index.jsp?pgid=800161&ppid=1000083&popular
I'll have a look at some of the other questions later.
treble said: If I have 5 or so guidelines already, when I drag guideline 1 to guideline 2, guideline 2 highlights a thick blue line and guideline 1 positions itself a noticeable distance away from guideline 2.
I presume by 90 degree guidelines, you mean vertical ones ?
I don't have X5 to test with, but I can say this does not happen in X7.
treble said:If I center more than 2 guidelines in varying angles (90,0,45) either they will center correctly or form some reason they form a very very very tiny right triangle.
I'm not sure I can follow this. Maybe you could add a screen capture?
9. When I installed x5 on my computer, I was forced to put all of its files on my desktop instead of my programs folder. Why is that? It takes too much space on my desktop.
Forced by what? The program installs properly to the programs folder. Please clarify.
I mean this in all kindness, but judging by your questions you really need to spend some time with the help text and documentation for the program. #6 is a good example: You use the tool that suits what you're trying to achieve, and the pen tool and b-spline do similar but different things. Nobody is forcing you to use both, but as you get better at the program you'll be glad you have both options. You wouldn't limit a mechanic to only one screwdriver, would you?
Following up on available documentation, the blogs (linked at the top of the forum) are full of wonderful tutorials to help you. They're not all text, there are videos as well so you can see the tools used.
It's hard to show with a picture. To rephrase, I have 3 or so guidelines intersect and one of them doesn't meet with the other two in the center and causes a triangle of sorts making multiple intersections.
When the files where in the normal place it should have been the program wouldn't open. Customer service told me to put it on the desktop.
Now that you flooded the forum with your questions, in a manner that may offend some forum users, I have to ask you, do you think you will be awarded with answers?
You have already stated your questions, in this thread, you really did not have to create so many threads with the same list of questions.
And to sum things up, once you have a new computer, or even with your current computer, if it meets X7's requirements, you can download the full X7 CGS and run it under a trial mode, which will give you a little time to answer your own queries for yourself.
