I've been happily running my Epilog 36EXT laser for almost a year now using Corel Draw x4 running on Windows Vista 64bit. I just purchased a new computer which has Windows 7. When I could not get x4 to work with my laser on the new computer it gave me a good excuse to upgrade to x5. Well, no dice there either.
To make a long story short - Epilog is claiming that Corel Draw (even the latest x5 version) does not fully support 64-bit drivers. I can understand their point of view on this, other programs do seem to work fine on my new machine with their 64bit drivers. For example, Adobe Photoshop prints to it with no problems at all.
What I do not understand is why my old computer which is running a 64bit operating system works just fine with Corel draw and my laser.
Personally, I have no idea who is to "blame" for this. I'm not a computer programmer so I have no expertise in this area. All I know is that I love Corel Draw, I love my Epilog Laser, and I also love my new computer running Windows 7... I'd like to be able to use all three of these together.
I guess I'm making this post because I'd like to know what Corel Draw's official view of this issue is. Also, if anyone out there has happened to figure out a work-around for this issue I'd love to hear it. I'd be happy to give more details about what I've tried myself... I just didn't want this post to get too long.

Contact Epilog to make sure they have the drivers to satisfy your upgrade desires.

Looks like another case of upgrade 1, upgrade 2, and forget the other. If Epilog did ot provide you with an independently operable program and chose to piggyback then they are to blame. Contact them to make sure your product is supported in the new environments.

I've done a bit more testing on this. I wanted to make sure that it wasn't only raster-based programs that were printing correctly... Adobe Illustrator does work with my laser under Windows 7 for both vector and raster images. So again, I can see why Epilog is claiming it's a Corel Draw issue.
But at the same time I do agree with you guys... I have no problems with Corel draw when printing to my Canon ipf5100 or my HP LaserJet 5100. Both Canon and HP have figured out a way to write their drivers so that they work in Corel Draw. Why can't Epilog?
At the end of the day I think it's Epilog that is going to need to write new drivers. I'd guess that close to 100% of their customers use Corel Draw. What percent of Corel Draw users have Epilog lasers? Probably less than 1%? There's going to be very little incentive for Corel Draw here.
Hi,
Epilog is claiming that Corel Draw (even the latest x5 version) does not fully support 64-bit drivers.
Gennady
Gennady, could you shed some light then on what the SPL***64 process is and how it effects the printer driver(s).
When there is a problem in 64 bit & Win7, we END Process in Task Manager and Restart CorelDRAW
then it will send jobs to the laser.
Hi Randy,
Actually I have a question for you as well. I have seen your profile on linkedin as "Sales & Tech Support at Epilog". If you are actually at Epilog, and this is not some mistake, could you please comment on this statement that according to Epilog Corel does not fully support 64-bit drivers? I am really interested to hear Epilog's side of story. If there is something wrong on our side we have to fix it.
Gennady,
Actually, I serve tech support & sales for Epilog Laser from Engraving Concepts, TX, NOT Epilog Corp. out of Golden, CO.
Thank you Randy, I apologize for my mistake then. I am looking into the issue from our side in case there is something that can be done in Draw print engine.
Mr. Coburn,
First, my pleasure to converse one on one with you. I think of it as an honor as I've heard, read, studied your
materials for years. But not nearly as much as my mentor Mr. Roy Brewer!
At any rate, about 3PM today I emailed my higher up contacts in technical support, sales and management at Epilog Corporate headquarters in Golden, CO.
I'm confident, and history proves, Epilog will do everything they can to resolve the issue as promptly and effectively as possible.
Best wishes to you,
Randy Allen
HI,
Looking at driver download page on Epilog website - http://www.epiloglaser.com/downloads_ext.htm the problem description there is much more balanced and accurate compared to "Corel does not support 64-bit drivers". This is good, at least the problem is clearly identified by the company. This would be much better answer to be used by Epilog tech support. Merely a suggestion.
