Blending fades

I have been stumped on this for a while.  The only way I have found to remove lines in a fade was to paint over it.  In the image, I find some of the colours don't change when trying to blend resulting in even more evident fades.  Im corel photopaint x6, how can I make this background smooth and without the lines?

  • Where are you seeing these lines? On the monitor, or on the printout? And have you tried looking at them using a different monitor?

If the photo you show here is an example of the problem, then I'm not seeing it here -- though I might possibly do if I had a higher resolution original and could display it full screen.

I'm guessing that what you are seeing is probably a limitation of the colour depth. In 24 bit RGB there is a maximum of 256 steps in each colour channel. If the colours don't change with the blend tool, then you are probably working at the limit the bit depth, but you could also possibly be hitting a limitation of the monitor.

Have you tried working in 48 bit RGB? Photopaint supports 48 bit in CPT format. JPG doesn't support 48 bit but TIFF should -- though some other programs may not.
