Hi
I've got a real problem with Draw( X6-64 bit). Things started acting up a couple of weeks ago with jerky behaviour in export selection. I posted a thread to that effect.
Since then I'm experiencing multiple crashes daily; usually and oddly when I inadvertently drag a tool (crop, text box, etc) out of the drawing space onto a surrounding panel (see attached). The screen freezes and never recovers.
I've checked my graphic card is up to date, checked the monitors and display settings (I use two and the problems occur on both), uninstalled and reinstalled X6 and with a newly created workspace.
I suspect the problem may be with Windows as much as Corel as I'm getting slightly erratic behaviour elsewhere, though no where as bad as in Draw. Neither Norton or C Cleaner report any problems.
Has any body got any idea of where else I can look for what's causing this?
Thanks, Colin
Hellow colin; To me it sounds like the video. You can also open "Event Viewer" right after a crash and see what the last thing Windows was trying to do. Another thing you may look at is the output from the power Supply.
My Thoughts George
Hi George
I'll try that. I shouldn't have long to wait! Mind you, I'm not 100% sure of what I'm looking for...What part of the Event Viewer (attached) do I look in when I get the next crash, and for what?
Many thanks, Colin
The two most likely places in event viewer are the classifications on the left of your window -- application and system.
Each of them will bring up a list which should have the most recent events first. You should look for an event at about the time and date when the problem occurred. They are classified as information, warning and error. A crash is most likely to generate an error report but sometimes there can also be a clue in a warning that appears immediately before it.
Had another crash - same cause. ( I would have had one before no doubt but I've been away for several days!)
I went to Events Viewer immediately as suggested and found the following - See Attached.
I haven't the faintest idea what all that means; Can anybody help?
The multimedia class scheduler is described here.
My guess is that some other program or task is intermittently hogging the CPU and intermittently preventing CorelDraw from doing what it needs.
The possible clue is that it started happening a couple of weeks ago, so look in control panel > programs and features, make sure you are displaying the installed on column, click on that column header to show recent installations first and see if you can identify a likely program.
Thanks Harry
The only programmes I've installed since the problems started are
itunes, That I think is, or was, the culprit as everything happened from that point in time. My CD/DVD driver disappeared and I eventually used GEAR driver installer 4 020 to recover it. Needless to say I uninstalled itunes.
I briefly had FixCleaner installed to try and sort the initial mess but it did nothing and I got rid of it.
Autodesk Sketchbook Pro 6 trial, that I didn't continue and uninstalled.
Otherwise, a couple of updates - the main one in the time bracket (3rd week of January( being Adobe Reader X (10.1.5) MUI
I uninstalled and reinstalled Corel X6 but that was only a few days ago in a vain attempt to rectify the problems.
Colin
When you uninstalled that stuff, did you run any sort of registry cleaner or utility to get the bits left behind by the uninstaller?
I ask because uninstall routines are notorious for not getting everything ...
hI
Yes, CCleaner
Hello Colin; Go back to the Programs & Features and check to see if all of the programs have been removed, and run the CCleaner agin. And make sure you have the latest video drivers loaded.
George
I've done that,, checked and double-checked and run CCleaner several times but I'm still experiencing crashes. It's always the same cause - accidentally dragging a tool onto the surrounding panels around the workspace (as described and illustrated earlier in this thread)
I've attached a Norton File alert that says Cdraw is using 99% of the CPU! The file I was working on wasn't that large or complex -anyhow I should have plenty of power and memory. My PC specs are attached as well, along with the affirmation that my NVidia driver is up to date.
I'd previously been working quite hapily on far larger (and multi page) files before this nonsense started. I'm being forced to save every couple of minutes to preserve what I'm doing.
Hi again
Just wondered if anybody had any more ideas - I seem to have tried everything. Something has destabilized Draw and I've no idea what it is.
The video card is up to date and "working properly" according to Windows. I've run CCleaner several times to clean out any fragments of uninstalled programmes. uninstalled and re installed X6 with a new workspace. Norton reports no abnormalities.
The only thing left to do it seems - and I really don't want to go down that road, if I can help it - is a complete recovery of Windows by disc. (I've done partial ones)
If it is the video card - and I still think it is - would Windows pick up on the onset of problematic behaviour, or report everything as being ok until things became really critical? I ask as the machine is still less than a year old and is under its 1 year warranty until the end of March.
