Hi,
CorelDraw v12Windows 7
I created a v12 file yesterday - basically all text and only 57k size. I tried to open it this mornign but it won't open. Tried the backup version but still wont open either. It seen to begin to ipen according to the progress bar but stops less than half way and CorelDraw stops responding. I need to close it using task manager.
Have searched the net but nothing specific that helps me. I would upload a copy here but can't find any method of attaching/uploading a file here.
Any help much appreciated.
Many tyhankd for reading,
Neil
Thanks- trying upload now.
I don't have V12 installed on my system. But the file opens up in X4. Its some AcquaCultureUK web form. I suspect non compatibility of V12 with Win 7. Not sure but you can try running V12 in Win 98SE or Win XP compatibility mode.

Thanks Anand,
Yes that's correct. It is a v12 file as it has been created from scratch using the same v12 on the same PC. I already have CD running in XP mode. Are you able to save it as a v11 or lower file?
Here is the file saved as V11 from my X4. Hope it opens for you

Anand - thank yo for taking the time to do this. Unfortunately it still refuses to load/open. I have tried running CD in ALL compatibility modes but still the same.
Please do not spend anu more time on this. As you will see the doc is a very basic form and therefore I have began re-creating it from new. I woulod like to have found a solution if only to be able to post it here for anybody else experiencing the same problem, but it looks like it's going to remain a mystery.
If I (or more likely sombody here) does find a solution I'll post it here for future reference.
Many thanks to all who helped.
Best regards,Neil
What's worrying is that v12 could not open a file it had just created, even though there did not seem to be a problem with the file, because it could be opened in a later version. No reason has been found (yet) so its possible that the new file you are working on might develop the same problem.
As a precaution, I'd suggest you also save a copy of the file in CMX format. That will give you a second chance if you can not open the CDR file.
I wonder though if you have the v12 updates at ftp://ftp.corel.com/pub/CorelDRAW/DRAW12Suite/ installed. Of particular interest is the CGS12SaveFix which sounds relevant. But the English version also has a printfix.
Harry - thanks for the advice.
I'd never taken any notice of the CMX format before. What would I use this for? I've taken a copy now in CMX as well and tried opening it in v12 and it opens just fine. I notice the new CMX file (1.1MB) is considerably larger than the new CDR ( 27k) file - presumably not compressed - would that be the reason? Thank you for that.
Have also downloaded the updates from that link. The v12 I have has been installed straight from the original CD so I don't think these updates would have been applied yet. Will install them as soon as I get this job finished.
Many thanks,
I'm not quite sure of the intended purpose of CMX, but what it provides is a second and I think slightly simplified file format which would give you another chance if the native CDR file does not work for some reason.
The file probably gets larger because some compound objects that did not exist when the CMX format was devised will be described as individual objects in the CMX file.
Interesting - thank you.
It certainly makes me feel a bit more confident, and I'll probably keep using it as a backup in future.
