Create arrows with fill and outlines that can be edited with the shape tool.

Drawing a map with lines at all angles, with bends in them, with an arrowhead at one end to show the direction of slope.

The line colour denotes the severity of the slope.

This is easily down with normal lines. But they need a thin black outline. Drawing a line with an arrowhead as a shape is fine until you rotate them and try to manoevre them into the right place and length - this just distorts them.

Is there any way of achieving this short of painfully drawing each and every arrow individually and exactly the right angle and length? Drawing a slightly thicker black line behind each coloured lin is also extremely difficult to do neatly.

  • AFAIK there is no way to draw outlines with outlines.  You can convert the outline to an object, but as you said, you loose the ease of editing as with an outline.

One idea might be to place a larger outline/arrowhead below the original. For example...create a 2 pt black outline w/ arrowhead, duplicate in place (+ on the keypad), and then change the size of the duplicate to 1 pt. and changing it to the color needed.

Not a perfect solution, but it might be sufficient?? If this doesn't work for you, it might helpful to upload an image with an example of your arrows so help can be more specific.
