Does anyone know how to create a logo with no backround and save it that way so when we import it to a web site we
can put it on any existing backround? I'm using Corel Draw 12 and Photo 12.
Thanks,
Brian
The short answer:
merge your logo with the background pattern/color in advance. Then import as a regular image on the site.
You'll be done in minutes. If you have hours to kill, try experimenting with:
1. PNG. Then realize 24 bit PNG's with 8 bit transparency are not supported perfectly yet across browers.
2. GIF. The 1-bit transparency is rough looking IMO
3. Flash. Looks good but requires flash plugin to view. Also you need know how to enable transparencies in the HTML code.
After building about 25 sites, and experimenting with transparencies for hours and hours, I come back to a flattened bitmap. It's reliable, EZ, and if made right will be a small file size.

Hunter said:8-bit PNGs are supported :) It's the 32-bit (24-bit color + 8-bit alpha channel = 32-bit) PNGs that aren't supported by older browsers, but are supported in all new browsers. There are reliable CSS hacks for IE 6 and 5.5 to see these files, but you have to be willing to dive into the code to apply.
Hi Hunter, LOL - yes.. i was half awake - I meant what you wrote as you can surmise. Thanks for the eagle-eye. And, I'll see you soon!

OK, I was being positive when saying they look rough. :-p
Hunter said:I agree absolutely ... with one caveat. If I'm designing a dynamic site and I have some content in a repeated region AND I'm using some CSS to alternate colors between rows/paragraphs AND the order of this content will change periodically AND I'm using some sort of Icon with each row/paragraph to identify something specific with this data, THEN I would use a PNG with transparency. In the 13+ years I've been creating sites, I have run across an instance like this only twice... and in one of them I really didn't see a need to have the alternating row color.
heh.. I suppose in non-critical situations such as this, one can go for it. The worst that can happen is a gray box or something on non compliant browsers. I suspect we agree that for a main logo or branding for a site... it just seems too soon for a transparent element.
Hi folks,
I'm a newbie here, but has been experimenting with Corel for quite some time. I'm trying to create a desktop icon. Currently i manage to create it with Corel Photo Paint 12. I succesfully created an image with a transparent background, but can only saved as *.GIF file since JPEG will merge the background. I'm using another application (Stardock IconProfessional) to instantly convert my image into icons (.ico) but the problem is, it cannot convert GIF files
So the question will be:
How do you create desktop icons with CorelPhotoPaint 12 ? especially with the transparrent background
Many Thanks Folks!
Ah! 'found it!
I just export my image file to PNG and quickly convert it into ICO file
