This technique is something you can build a career around. IMO anyway, but I wrote the tutorial! :-D

regarding transparency, it will have it - since the shapes will be vector shapes. As soon as you convert vectors to bitmaps, the clarity of the edges will be degraded relative to the output potential of a device, based on the conversion settings you've chosen.
