Drawing a railway line

Hi How can i create / access a brush that will allow me to create a railway line. Im guessing the artistic media will do this but i need the right brush. I was hoping the clipart discs might have some extra brushes but cant find any. Maybe i could make one but dont know how.

thanks

  • I'm not exactly sure what a railroad line is..........................something like this?

I guess you could create your own brush.............or I used the Blend tool, for the 2 tracks above.

    • Have you tried making your own railway line in Draw ? Between Draw and PP plus the perspective tools, it can be done.

      • See, I told you I didn't know what a railroad line was.............thought it was just a simple representation to put on a map. Duh.

        • Hi Thanks for that ColourYourWorld.

That did it. The blend tool. Never really used it before. Took some time to work out how to do it..

But yes the one you drew was the map style i was after.

The process involved drawing the extent of the line eg station a to station b.

then place the cross piece on either end of the line. Blend the two end pieces to create lots of cross pieces in between ;  then choose alternative path and pick the line. this will then place all the cross pieces on the line.

i had to play with a few settings to get it to work but it worked well in the end.

out of interest how did you get the double line ie two tracks? i used a single line.

          Thanks a shedload.

          • Maybe these tutorials by Jeff Harrison will help. The first shows a quick and easy way to create parallel lines. The second link actually has two tutorials on the Blend tool. The first of these Jeff creates a railway type blend.

            http://www.unleash.com/jeffh/fitblendtopath/

For the example here, I created my "rail lines" using Jeff's technique and then I used the Blend tool to add the tracks, selecting the white line as the target path. That white line won't make sense until you watch the parallel lines movie! :)

              Thanks Patti!

Another fun idea is to spray custom-made objects in CorelDRAW like this:

I know you are, but for those not familiar.... this uses the "sprayer mode" for the Artistic Media tool.

Draw has some unique advantages over Photo-paint for spraying, in that the obects can follow the curves. In Photopaint, one has to make numerous cells to support differenct angles of "direction". I've done it, for PP it's tedious but possible. LOL.
