I have a number of files which were prepared in Corel Draw which I would like to post online. The designer has supplied the PDF versions of these files, however, the files sizes are too large for web usage. A 8 pg document is 5Mb. I have tried reducing the sizes by compressing in Acrobat; importing the PDFs into Corel Draw and re-creating PDF files with reduced resolution; recreating the PDF without the bitmap images (there are about 10 images)..yet the file size of the PDF does not change significantly.
What else can I do to reduce the file size of the generated PDF files?
The files are newsletters, so most of the content is text and a few shapes and lines.
I found an unusual solution! I save another version (so you don't lose your uncompressed original). Then, in the low version, I convert every page to a Bitmap set to 300 dpi Paletted 8 Bit. It looks fine! The file size is cut down by almost 10 times! It sounds crazy, I know. But I even printed the document out, and I do not notice any loss in print quality. The colors look totally fine.
Digital or offset?
I don't really understand your terms. I use Corel moreso for web graphics than for printing. I can tell you my 300 MB file, and my reduced to paletted 40 MB file both look exactly the same when printed from a HP Laserjet 4700 C Printer.
I mean than a desktop priner or a professional printing company.
On a color laser printer it's possible to match exact color, but if you send to a printing company it's a high risk to use "paletted" colors
