Transparency problem

Once again, please forgive me for being dumb. I'm trying to apply a radial transparency to a photo in corel draw. I'd like the edges of the photo to be transparent and the centre to be opaque but I can only get the opposite to work. How do I reverse the transparency gradient of a radial transparency? Many thanks in advance.  Andy.

  • click the edit transparency button, then in the dialogue box select the 'From' color and select black, then make the 'To' color white. this will make the outside edges of the object transparent. Corel's interactive visibility masking is so cool and easy to use. the masking in Illustrator is such a hassle, as are the gradients. unfortunately Adobe doesn't recognize the Corel transparency ... -sigh-
    • Well I'll be..........! Never realized there was a dialogue window available to use with the transparency tool. That's pretty cool. Everytime I learn something new I wonder what else I'm not aware of. Thanks for posting.  - Scotty

    • The trick to remember with the Interactive Transparency Tool is that you
can drag a color from the color palette and drop it on the little
endpoint squares on the object.(This is the same as the from and to
colors in the fountain dialog.) Colors will only be interpreted in
grayscale, though, so you may as well use the black, white and shades of
gray from your palette. The closer to black your color is, the more
transparent the area nearest that endpoint will be. The closer to white,
      the more opaque.
Using the dialog, it is even possible to add points to a fountain
transparency edited just like a custom fountain fill so you get ripples
or stripes of transparency/opaqueness. I've not been able to do this in
X3 by double clicking the Interactive line as you can with a normal
fountain fill. Maybe in the next version?

      • Thanks very much for all your help. I managed to achieve what i needed shortly after posting by putting the photos in photopaint with no background and then erasing the edges with the feather turned up to 100.

I'll have a play with your ideas now and see what happens.

        Thanks again.

        Andy.

If the image is a bitmap, why not use the vignette effect?

goto Effects>Creative>Vignette then in the dialog box define the shape, and adjust the offset anf fade sliders to suit.
