I am working in CorelDraw 10 and I have to send lots of files to printers and other designers that work in the Adobe world (CreativeSuites Illustrator and InDesign). I have Illustrator 7 and have finally figured out a setup that works for both but am running into problems with sending and receiving files that aren't saved low enough from the CS or they need higher versions.
My questions is does anyone recommend a higher version of CorelDRAW and/or a higher version of Illustrator. (without breaking the bank!)
The art I work with can be anything from simple pages of icons to layouts of 16 month calendar spreads and everything in-between.
Thanks!
Hi,I would upgrade to CorelDRAW X4.

Thanks for your advice. I'll do some research and upgrade!
CDX4 sounds like quite the upgrade from CD10!
New questions....
Will I need to upgrade Illustrator? (I have AI 7)
What will be the best file format to send to the InDesign MAC users? (ex. calendar layout with 18pgs) ....PDF?
Just want to make the process easier for both users. I'm usually the one trying to figure out the file formatting.

You will love X4. I once had version 10, but quite a bit of things have happened since then.

Let me say like this, I dont see why you should have to. I just finished a set of maps for a client. My client needs everything as an ai illustrator file. The only issue with the file conversion have been with the name of the streets on these maps. All names of the streets needed to be converted to curves. There are several things we can do in this case. Useally you can just select the word and press Ctrl+Key on the keyboard, and the text converts to curves. Of some reasons some words at times dont make the best conversion to curves, when saved as/exported to ai illustrator files. Thats when I suggest three ways of doing this. Either of these three will work, but the Weld version have proven to be the best for the text to curves in particular, and works perfect. AND this is when yu save/export to Illustrator. No need when saving internally in coreldraw. Whatever way you use, it makes the conversion to curves.

Because Adobe dont give Indesign such a basic thing as open a PDF, plug ins are around. I Cant say if these are any good, but here are a link to a company who have such a product/software. http://www. recosoft.com/products/pdf2id/index.htm is about the specific program. And here is a link to the resellers they have in a few countries. http://www. recosoft.com/download/resellers.htm
Thanks Stefan. I have been sending AI and PDFs to the other designer and haven't had any problems (I always convert to curves!...and you are right about some fonts don't work that well...some scripts!...I will break apart then CtrlQ...I haven't tried welding text!)
I wasn't sure if I needed to save each page as an AI file or stick to sending PDFs. I read somewhere that ID doesn't like anything prepared in Corel. The other designer hasn't said anything about it being not compatible yet...we aren't quite ready for the final file transfer though.
I end up having more of a problem with the files being sent to me that are usually mac based or their CS won't save AI to version 7...it will go down to 3 for some crazy reason but it totally screwed up the images.
It sounds like I just need to keep doing what I have been with sending PDFs.
Thank you for your time and advice!

You can actually "Place" PDF files into Indesign but It will be linked, so if you delete the original file you will end up with problems unless you embed the pdf file into indesign. I'm not a major Adobe user but I have to use Indesign for books....There is a free script for indesign called "PDF Placer" which actually does a pretty good job when placing PDF files.
BTW, I use CS4...so I wont know if it works with older Versions.

Here is the secret, many people doesnt know what they are doing to begin with. Might be the case with your client. So you having problems with files being sent to you, well then that says it all doesnt it... When you upgrade to CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4, you can actually save up to CS3 illustrator files, and open them sent to you from a CS3 file. But when you save as or export to for example a AI illustrator file in CorelDRAW X4, the default choice in the dialog that pops up is Illustrator 8.

Good call! And I really DO recomend to upgrade to X4. As an old version 10 user myself, you will benefit so much in your work. And all files internally and externally have been enhanced. You will be much more up to speed and all with todays work.
